Base Class: Fighter
These warriors wear fearsome magic masks and wield deadly living blades. They are fearless, and their ability to endure blows is far beyond that of a normal human. They will not rest until their blades shine slick with blood.
-This is a modded version of the Masked Warrior subclass from Historica Arcanum's empires of the silk road, adapted for standard D&D play.
The Blade
Chose a bladed weapon of some type. If your weapon is not already sentient, it becomes sentient as it is imbued with a spirit. Your chosen blade gets +2 to attack and damage rolls, but any other weapon you use gets -2 to attack and damage. You become psychically bonded to to your blade, and each knows where the other is at all times.
The spirit of your blade can manifest and communicate in a space within 10 ft. of the blade. It can speak and understand all languages. It can manifest at the summons of its wielder or of its own volition.
The Mask of Terror
By the time you have reached third level, your training enables you to craft and wield a special mask. While wearing it, you have the following benefits:
- You can spend hit die as an action and heal yourself an amount 1d10 + your Constitution modifier. You can't spend more than 2 hit dice this way, and the uses refresh after a long rest.
- When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can force the creature to make a Wis save (DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + Cha modifier). On a failed save, the creature is frightened of you until the end of your next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
- You can deal extra damage equal to your Cha modifier when you hit a creature with a weapon attack. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
If your mask is destroyed, you can spend 1 hour to repair it or create a new one.
While wearing the mask, regular people are more likely to be afraid of and/or hostile towards you.
Mask of Faces
Starting at 7th level, you can add additional features to your mask, carving into it runes of power and symbols from myth and legend. Choose one of the following options, which only apply while wearing the mask:
Mask of the Dragon
You gain the Intimidation skill or gain expertise when using that skill if you already have it.
Additionally, your fear effects improve greatly. You can activate your mask for one minute. When a creature wants to attack you, it must make a Wis save ( DC = 8 + proficiency bonus + Cha modifier). On a failed save, it makes the attack with disadvantage and can't change the target, or it will lose the attack. This ability can't be used again until the next dawn.
Mask of the Eagle
You gain proficiency in Cha saving throws.
Additionally, you can mark your enemies with the Mark of the Eagle. When you hit a creature with your Blade, that creature is marked by you and your allies. Until the end of your next turn, the target takes psychic damage equal to your Cha modifier the next time it takes damage. You can use this feature an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Mask of the Wolf
You gain proficiency in Wis saving throws.
Additionally, you fight in harmony with your allies like a wolf in a pack. If an ally is within 5 ft. of the target of your next attack, you can give yourself advantage on the attack roll. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain expended uses when you finish a long rest.
The Fearless Warrior
Starting at 10th level, while you wear the mask, you are immune to the frightened condition.
Additionally, when you hit a creature while it is frightened of you, you gain the ability to change your entire damage to psychic against that creature.
Fast and precise
Starting at 15th level, while wearing your mask, whenever you use your Action Surge, you have advantage on the attack rolls you make with the Action Surge.
The Scourge of God
Starting at 18th level, while wearing the mask, you get another mask option from the Mask of Faces abilities.
