Bard
Base Class: Bard

Many bards use music and instruments to channel their magical powers, but you learned to achieve it through your body. Bladedancers don't simply produce music, they absorb it, and redirect its essence through pirouettes and gracious movements. Enhancing their physical capabilities, they spin unharmed through the battlefield, punishing those who attempt to stop their performance without skipping a step. Many incorporate torches, cloaks, and other additional non-weapon and non-shield items in their dance and distractions.

Bladedance

At 3rd level, you learn a particular style of dance fighting called The Bladedance. Your Bladedance can be achieved using a reaction and can only be used a number of times equal to half your proficiency modifier rounded down per short rest, it lasts 1 minute each time it is activated, and while you are Bladedancing, you gain the following benefits:

  • If you aren't wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield, your AC becomes 10 + your Dexterity modifier + half of your Charisma modifier (rounded down).
  • When there is exactly one enemy within 5 feet of you, you gain a +2 bonus to AC against melee attacks made by that enemy once per round.
  • Once per round, when an enemy moves within 5 feet of you, you may immediately move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks, provided you are not in difficult terrain.

You can use a reaction to end Bladedance, before the 1 minute is up. Additionally, you only receive the above benefits if you aren't incapacitated, prone, or restrained, and your speed must be greater than 10ft.

Dance Partner

At 3rd level, you specialize in the use of a particular weapon, called your Partner Weapon. During a long rest you can focus your touch of the muse into one melee weapon you're touching that lacks the heavy and special properties, Your weapon does not add any bonus to your spell save DC and attack rolls, it cannot stack with any caster attunements. You are now considered proficient with that weapon, and it counts as a finesse weapon for you. You can also use your Partner Weapon as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells. When you attune to your Partner Weapon, you can also choose one of the following fighting styles:

  • Dueling. When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with that weapon.
  • Great Weapon Fighting. When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if they are a 1 or 2. The weapon must have the two-handed or versatile property for you to gain this benefit.
  • Two-Weapon Fighting. When you engage in two-weapon fighting, you can add your Charisma modifier to the damage of the second attack.

Only while there are no more than one enemy within 5 feet of you, and you are wielding your partner weapon in your hand(s) can you receive the benefits of your chosen fighting style.

Endless Waltz

At 6th level, you have perfected your Bladedance routine and added new maneuvers and steps. While Bladedancing, you gain these additional benefits:

  • When an enemy misses you with a melee attack roll, you can use your reaction to make a weapon attack roll against that same creature.
  • When an enemy attacks you and hits you with a nonmagical missile, or thrown weapon ranged attack, you can use your reaction to deflect or catch either. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d6 + your Dexterity modifier + your bard level. You must have a free hand to perform these  next steps of the Bladedance. If the steps of the dance negate all damage, then you can gracefully catch it, and can make a thrown weapon attack as if the item was a Dagger as part of the same reaction.
  • When you are forced to make a Dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to roll one of your bardic inspiration dice and add it to the total. If you succeed, you can then move 10 feet as part of the same reaction without provoking opportunity attacks, and take no damage if the save says to take half on a success.

Whirlwind of Graceful Death

At 14th level, your Bladedance becomes a true extension of your body and you become a true master of the art:

  • Whenever you make an attack roll as a reaction due to your Endless Waltz feature and hit, you gain one extra use of your reaction. You can do so up to a number times equal to your Dexterity and Charisma modifier combined (reduced by half, and rounded down) each short rest (Minimum of 1 use). (For example, a Dex of +2 and a Cha of +5 would be +7 total, divide that by two and round down to get a total of 3 uses per short rest).
  • Additionally, anytime you pass a Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution saving throw while Bladedancing, you can use your Bardic Inspiration, without using a bonus action, and even if you have none, to bane the creatures next attack, save, or skill check within the next 10 minutes by the die amount you roll, provided they can also hear or see you.
