Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins to the oath of respite know the importance of comfort, of calm and soothing environments. Usually found aligned with gods of the hearth, like Hestia of the greek pantheon, warriors sworn to this oath are often found in taverns, camps and inns, bringing comfort to the weary.

Tenets of Respite.

Rest. You should always be well rested, as tiredness breeds weakness and comfort increases morale.

Host. Be a beacon of respite for others, guard their slumber from terrors and bring solace alleviation to homes and wandering tents alike.

Moderation. Respite is good, but hold yourself accountable and don’t fall on laziness and sloth, you do just what’s necessary but never any less.

Restful Spirit

Beginning when you first choose this oath at 3rd level, you’ve become specially adept at resting. You can finish a long rest in half the time, up to a minimum of 4 hours.

Channel Divinity

Also at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options:

Overpowering Sloth. As an action, you can choose a creature you can see within 30 feet of you and force overwhelming tiredness upon them. They must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or be immediately knocked prone and lose concentration on anything it’s concentrating on. Furthermore, until the end of their next turn, it can’t take reactions and its speed is reduced by 10 feet.

Blessing of Respite. As a bonus action, you can choose a creature you can see within 30 feet of you, blessing them with the magic of slumber, causing the creature to immediately regain hit points equal to half your paladin level. Furthermore, for the next minute, they gain a +1 bonus to their AC, the reach for their melee attacks is increased by 10 feet, and at the end of their turn if they didn’t move or teleport, they gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.

Aura of the Restful

Starting at 7th level, you constantly emanate an aura of rest, causing the following benefits for yourself and creatures within 10 feet of you.

  • Creatures within the aura gain temporary hit points equal to your paladin level + your proficiency bonus whenever they finish a short or long rest.
  • Their exhaustion level, if any, is reduced by 2 instead of 1, whenever they finish a long rest.
  • They regain a number of hit dice equal to half your proficiency bonus, rounded down; whenever they finish a short rest.

At 18th level, this aura increases to 30 feet.

House of Sloth

At 15th level, you’ve learnt to turn any location into a sanctuary for rest. As an action, choose a point you can see within 60 feet of you, causing terrain in a 15-foot radius sphere to be warped and changed to become pillows and mattresses, blankets and sheets, for up to 10 minutes or until you choose to dismiss it (no action required).

Hostile creatures within the area have their speed reduced by 10 feet and have a -1 penalty to their AC. Furthermore, getting up from being knocked prone costs their entire movement rather than half, and if they attempt to make more than one attack in a single turn, they must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, any attack after the first is made with disadvantage.

You can use this feature once, regaining the ability to do so again when you finish a short or long rest.

Icon of Slumber

By the time you’ve reached 20th level, as an action, you’ve learnt to become a paragon of respite, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute.

  • Your speed is reduced to 10 feet.
  • Your weapon attacks and your melee spell attacks have a reach of sight for you.
  • You gain a +2 bonus to your AC and Constitution saving throws.
  • As a bonus action, you can target a creature you can see, forcing it to succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, they fall asleep, unconscious for 1 minute or until they take damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap them awake.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
