Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

The Voidcaller is a Warlock subclass that harnesses the mysterious and potent energies of the Void. Not content with so few spell slots they greedily tore more energy from the Void than was wise. Thus they gained what they desired, power, but at a price. Now specializing in draining life force and magical energy from foes to regain spell slots, Voidcallers deal formidable force damage at a personal cost, reflecting their erosion of sanity. The unshielded aspects of life are nothing more than prey for the Voidcaller. As they delve deeper into the Void's secrets, they gain abilities to mitigate the backlash of their powers and ultimately achieve a state of Apotheosis, maximizing their destructive capabilities while rending the fabric of reality for their own selfish desires.

Expanded Spell List

The Voidcaller lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Voidcaller Expanded Spells

Essence Drain

As a Voidcaller, you gain the ability to drain the essence of living or undead creatures within 20 feet of you. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Proficiency, regaining all expended uses after a short rest. When you use this ability, choose a target within range. The target must make a Constitution saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC. On a successful save, they take half damage and you do not regain a spell slot. On a failed save, the target takes 2d8 force damage, and you regain one expended spell slot of a level no higher than what you can currently cast. The damage increases to 3d8 at 6th level, 4d8 at 10th level, and 5d8 at 14th level. You cannot drain constructs or creatures with temporary health, and unconscious or dead creatures automatically fail their saving throw. A dead creature that suffers this damage cannot be resurrected, except by true resurrection or a wish spell. Using this ability inflicts 1d6 psychic damage to yourself, representing the erosion of your sanity.

Whispers in the Dark

At 1st level, you gain the ability to hear the whispers of the Void, granting you insight beyond the ken of normal beings. You gain proficiency in the Insight and Arcana skills. If you are already proficient in either of these skills, you may choose another skill proficiency in its place. Additionally, you can communicate telepathically with any creature you can see within 30 feet of you, a manifestation of your connection to the otherworldly Void. This telepathy does not enable the creature to respond to you telepathically.

Void Warp

At 6th level, your attunement to the Void allows you to manipulate space around you, distorting it to protect yourself and confound your enemies. When you are targeted by an attack or forced to make a Dexterity saving throw, you can use your reaction to activate Void Warp. Upon activation, you cause the space around you to bend, granting you a bonus to your AC and Dexterity saving throws equal to your proficiency bonus until the beginning of your next turn. Additionally, if the attack misses or you succeed on the saving throw, the attacker or source of the effect takes force damage equal to 2d8 + your Warlock level, as a riposte of twisted Void energy lashes out at them.

After using Void Warp, you can't use it again until you either finish a short/long rest or succeed on using your essence drain ability.

Essence of the Void

Your connection to the Void deepens, granting you resistance to force & psychic damage. Additionally, when you use your Void Essence Drain, you no longer take psychic damage from the ability, and you can choose to either regain a spell slot or gain temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt.

Void Ascendancy

At 14th level, you achieve a profound unity with the Void, enabling you to momentarily ascend to a state of near-omnipotence that mirrors the mythical Apotheosis. Activating Void Ascendancy requires an action, and upon doing so, you undergo a transformation that lasts for 1 minute, during which you are imbued with the following enhancements:

  • Void Empowerment: The first force based spell that you cast in this form has the maximum possible damage dice, instead of rolled damage.
  • Dual Drain: When you use your Void Essence Drain ability, you can affect any two creatures within range.
  • Ethereal Presence: You gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, and necrotic damage. Additionally, your movement does not provoke opportunity attacks, as your form blurs between the material plane and the Void.

Once you use Void Ascendancy, you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest or until you succeed three essence draining attacks.
