Expanded Spell List

The Shadow Monarch lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

The Shadow Monarch  Expanded Spells

Monarch's Strength

At 1st level, you gain the following benefits:

  • Shadow Body: You can see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, out to a range of 60 feet. When in dim light or darkness, you gain advantage on Strength (Athletics) and Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks.

  • Unnatural Power: Once per turn when you hit with a melee weapon attack or a melee spell attack, you can deal extra necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Shadow Extraction

At 6th level, when a creature dies within 10 feet of you, you can use an action and attempt to extract its shadow and raise it under your command. As part of this attempt, you choose a creature that has died within the last minute and force it to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus). The target must have a Challenge Rating (CR) equal to or lower than 1/3 of your Warlock level (rounded down); if the creature’s CR is too high, the attempt automatically fails.

On a failed save, the creature rises as a Shadow Knight, using its original stat block but with the Undead creature type. It obeys your mental commands until dismissed or reduced to 0 hit points. On a successful save, the attempt fails, and its shadow remains its own.

You can attempt to extract a creature’s shadow up to three times, but each failed attempt reduces the DC by 5 for that creature. Once a Shadow Knight is reduced to 0 hit points, it cannot be summoned again until after a short or long rest. You can control a number of Shadow Knights equal to your proficiency bonus at a time.

You can use an action to summon Shadow Knights.

  • When you reach 10th level, all Shadow Knights gain temporary hit points equal to your Warlock level when summoned.
  • At 14th level, their attacks count as magical for overcoming resistances.

Monarch's Domain

At 10th level, as a bonus action, you can unleash a dark aura, shrouding a 30-foot radius centered on you for 1 minute (requires concentration). While active, you and allies in the area gain +10 feet of movement speed and advantage on Dexterity saving throws, while enemies have disadvantage on saving throws against your spells and abilities. Additionally, your Shadow Knights have advantage on attack rolls against creatures inside the aura. While within your aura, Shadow Knights also gain resistance to non-magical attacks.

You can use this feature once per short or long rest.

Army of the Monarch

At 14th level, you can store and command a number of Shadow Knights equal to half your Warlock level (rounded down). When you reduce a creature to 0 HP, you can automatically extract its shadow once per short or long rest, raising it as a Shadow Knight without requiring a saving throw.

As a bonus action, you can expend a Warlock spell slot to heal all of your Shadow Knights for 15 HP. When you do, you also gain 15 temporary hit points.
