Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

Mimics are odd and terrifying fighters. To their opponent, it must seem as if they’re a master of each and every unique fighting style, when in reality, they are simply experts at copying. They study and analyze what they see in a way that’s almost supernatural.

Often found as mercenaries, no weapons or combat styles can escape their gaze, and once it doesn’t…they only need to see it once to be considered deadly.

Creator’s Note. It is heavily encouraged to be vivid in your descriptions as a player when using this subclass. The abilities may copy styles or direct abilities of other creatures, but it’s on you to describe the eerily similar movements, the echoed strike of what your foe just did; and have fun with it!

Copied Competence

Beginning when you pick this archetype at 3rd level, you’ve learnt to copy others’ subtle skills. Whenever you see a creature within 30 feet of you make an ability check or a check with a set of tools, you can use your reaction to become proficient in the ability or set of tools used for the check for the next hour if you aren’t already.

You can have a single copied proficiency at a time, and if you use this feature again during its duration, the proficiency is replaced. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Mimic Combat

Also at 3rd level, you can copy others on the battlefield. As a bonus action, choose a hostile creature you can see within 30 feet of you to be the target of your copying focus.

For as long as you can see the creature, and for up to one minute after you stop seeing the creature, you gain different benefits depending on which one style of combat the creature has (DM’s Discretion, though ideally, the DM identifies two styles appropriate for the creature, and you choose between the two of them which aspect of their combat style you copy).

You can use this feature once, regaining the ability to use it again when you finish a short or long rest.

Brawler

Once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can take the Shove against the creature as part of that attack.

Guardian

Allied creatures within 10 feet of you gain a bonus to their AC equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down).

Healer

You gain a 1 + half your proficiency bonus (rounded down) bonus to any roll that would restore you hit points, and you can use a healer’s kit as a bonus action.

Mage

You have advantage on saving throws against spells and you temporarily learn one cantrip you’ve seen the creature cast.

Marksman

You can’t have disadvantage on your ranged weapon attack rolls, unless the target is within 5 feet of you; and you ignore half cover on your ranged weapon attacks.

Skirmisher

Attacks of opportunity made against you have disadvantage and your speed increases by a number of feet equal to five times your proficiency bonus (rounded down).

Striker

Once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can have that attack deal additional damage equal to half your fighter level.

Copycat Strike

At 7th level, if you attack a creature who hit you with an attack since your last turn, or you make an ability check against a creature that made the same type of ability check against you in the past minute; you can use your reaction to use the same result on the d20 as the creature rolled, instead of rolling.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Tactical Mimicry

Starting at 10th level, your Mimic Combat has gotten stronger. While under the effects of your Mimic Combat, you gain the following benefits:

  • If the speed of the creature you’re mimicking is higher than yours, in a type of speed you have, your speed becomes the target’s speed.
  • If the initiative roll of the creature you’re mimicking is higher than yours, your initiative roll becomes that of the creature’s at the beginning of the next round.
  • You can target an additional creature to become affected by your Mimic Combat, gaining the benefits of an additional combat style.

Mirrrored Swiftness

At 15th level, you can study and mirror your opponent with extreme precision. As a reaction to a creature within 30 feet of you moving you can use your reaction to either move the same amount of movement as the triggering creature without provoking an attack of opportunity. At the end of that move, you can make a single weapon attack.

You can use this feature once, regaining the ability to use it again when you finish a short or long rest.

Ultimate Copy

When you reach 18th level, you’ve learnt a forbidden technique of other mimics, almost lost to history, one that lets you warp your existence to copy your foes.

At the beginning of your turn, you can choose to partially transform into one of the creatures you’re copying with your Mimic Combat feature. If you do, you can choose one of the creature's abilities that can be used with an Action (DM’s Discretion, but don’t be mean fellow DMs. This is in place to avoid any “I steal the BBEG instakill button!”, but be kind to your level 18th fighter, let them have basically anything barring the Wish spell or the BBEG instakill button).

For the duration of your Mimic Combat, you can use the chosen ability once as either an action or bonus action. After you use it, you lose the ability to activate it again, and you can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
