Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks of the Way of Penance use self mutilation as a form tithing to their deity. They may carve religious symbols into their skin or tattoos that they do onto themselves. Their connection to their deity is faint in comparison to clerics, but their devotion is no less. Way of Penance monks carry chains on them as a form of atonement, feeling unworthy of the gifts their deity has given them.

Bonus Proficiencies

3rd-level Way of the Penance feature

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with martial weapons and Intimidation.

Presence of the Masochist

6th-level Way of Penance feature

When you spend a Ki Point to use Flurry of Blows you become a vision of terror.

A mask covers your face, the mask being a terrifying visage. You determine what the mask looks like.

While the mask covers your face, you gain the following benefits;

Pain Tolerance. You gain resistance to all damage until the end of your next turn.

Frightening Presence. Creatures within 10 feet of you that can see you must make a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of your next turn. If the target succeeds their saving throw, they cannot be frighted in this way for 24 hours.

Visage of Terror. You have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks.

Pained Strikes

Your unarmed strikes are now considered to be magical attacks.

Chains of Rebuttal

11th-level Way of Penance

You gain master over the chains of punishment you carry with you. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to animate the chains around your body. The chains act as your own appendages when called upon. These chains protect and punish those deserving.

While these chains are activated, you gain the following benefits.

Chains of Judgment. Your weapon attacks and unarmed strikes reach increases by 5 feet.

Steel Aegis. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to deflect it. When you do so, the damage you take is reduced by 1d10 + your Wisdom modifier (minimum reduction of 1).  Additionally, when a target within your melee range makes casts a spell or makes an attack, you may use your reaction to reduce the attack roll by 5 or give the target(s) advantage on their saving throw as the chains impede their casting or attack.

Shackles. Once on each of your turns when you hit a target with an unarmed strike from Flurry of Blows, you can use on attack to entangle in chains. The target must succeed a Strength saving throw or become restrained. On a failed save the target takes force damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die. The target can make a Strength saving throw at the end of each of their turns. On each failed save, the target takes force damage equal to two rolls of your Martial Arts die.

Wall Climber. You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

Awakened Pain

17th-level Way of Penance

Your connection to your pain is complete, allowing you to unleash its full potential. As a bonus action, you can spend 5 ki points to awaken your chains for 10 minutes. This awakening ends early if you are incapacitated or die.

While your chains awakened, you gain the following benefits.

Armor Link. You gain a +2 bonus to Armor Class.

Chain Barrage. Whenever you use the Extra Attack feature to attack twice, you can instead attack three times if all the attacks are made with your chains.

Billowing Chains. Creatures you choose take force damage equal to two of your Martial Arts die when they start their turn within your melee range.
