Base Class: Monk
The unorthodox practitioners that follow this path have chosen to wield the power of natural energies that flow throughout the world. Some choose to focus on the power of the light and the dark. Many within the magical and martial worlds view these people as heretics and persecuted for their use of armor and magic as a result; while others scheme against them with jealousy and greed. They have seen that the enlightenment reached from this balance as the peak of growth. This realization has lead to a great power gained from the harmony of life and death. As such they have not only decided to follow the way of just martial arts but magic as well. The resulting reward that many have found along this difficult journey is a longer life and a greater appreciation of the bonds they share with others.
Ki Detection
At 3rd level you can detect the ki of another person or creature that you have met before and this ability does not rely on sight to perceive the target. You can make a perception check and add either your wisdom or charisma modifier. At 120 ft you can tell what direction they are in, at 60 ft you can tell whether they are familiar to you as well as their direction. At 30 ft you will know who the ki belongs to as well as whether they are weaker or stronger than you, along with their direction.
Tracker Step
At level 3 If you're able to detect your target's ki and have a clear line of sight, you can move to an unoccupied space around them up to 120 ft. as a bonus action. If you are attempting to move with another creature then the range is reduced to 60 ft.
Tao Qigong
You begin to gather the tao energy and channel it into your hands to amplify an attack, heal or resist an energy based attack at level 6. Once per turn can use 2 ki points to roll a D6 + your Con modifier to either choose to heal an ally or reduce the health of an enemy (permanently). At level 12 you begin to roll 2D6 + your Con modifier. This is treated similarly to a magical melee attack when you attack an enemy.
Aligining the Tao
At 12th level you use your understanding of the Tao to protect yourself during combat and are able to absorb half of the damage of a magical attack through the Tao and you regain ki points equal to the level of the spell.
Gift of Vitality
At level 9 you can choose to heal either yourself of an ally. You are able to roll a d6 + your Con modifier and heal an ally that you're touching for that total roll. At level 12 you roll 2d6 + Con modifier
Shadow Jiangshi
At 9th level your knowledge of the Tao allows you to bind the shadow soul of an (humanoid) enemy that you have slain. By useing 3 ki points you're able to bind the shadow soul of an (humanoid) enemy that you've killed to your service. They can speak to you telepathically or verbally with and echoey hissing like voice They will be loyal only to their creator and are immune to all forms of charm and domination unless ordered otherwise by their creator. Their form is made of your ki and the shadows in which it dwells and travels and as such they are immune to physical attacks, but weak to magical attacks. The jiangshi will be created at the 6th level of their original class and will level up with you until their HP reaches 0. Once their HP reaches 0 they will be destroyed and a new shadow jiangshi will need to be created form a different foe.
Formations
At level 11 through your use of the Tao you gain access to formations which is magical sorcery that allows you to feats beyond the ability of martial ability.
Hidden
This formation is meant to create an visual illusion that obscures a section of the environment that is 30 ft wide and 30 ft high. Although the illusion is not physical and produces no sound it gives the perfect visual appearance of the caster's desired image. Unless viewed through the use of magical sight the only ones able to see past the illusion are the caster and two creatures chosen by the caster. It cost 3 ki points to prepare this formation and lasts for 8 hrs or until the caster chooses to remove the illusion.
Trap
A trap formation is used to conjure an illusion to temporarily seal your target into a mental space of your creation by imbuing environmental elements with your ki.The trap is placed in a 15 ft space over takes 3 min and uses 1 ki point to prepare with a choice of either being triggered by the caster or by a creature stepping into the space. This formation acts as the charmed effect with the condition that unless the caster releases the trap, the target is hit or the target makes the Intelligence save of 18 at the end of their turn. While the target is within the formation their movement becomes 0 and they are unable to take any actions.
