Base Class: Wizard
You are a Scribe of some kind. Perhaps you are a Scribe of the Page, and have devoted your time to translating and recording ancient history into modern books. Maybe you’re a Scribe of the Stars, and you write down the magical secrets of space. Or maybe you’re a Scribe of the Weave, dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the plane of magic. Whatever you Scribe, you are studious, well-read, and as such you have a special connection with your and writing itself that grants you unique powers.
Ink to Paper
When you choose to be a Scribe at 2nd level, you gain a few bonuses. The first of which applies to your spellbook. It undergoes some sort of change, or perhaps a power just awakens within it.
You can copy spells into your spellbook for half the amount of gold it would normally cost, and in a quarter of the time it would usually take.
You may create a scroll of any spell in your spellbook at the end of every long or short rest without material components or required time. You will need gold, however. Anybody can use this scroll, no strings attached, even pure martials.
You gain a magical quill that you can summon or unsummon at will. You can use magic to make the ink it jots visible or invisible at will, or visible to certain people and invisible to others. Creatures can make a Perception check to reveal the ink. You roll an Arcana check against their Perception to keep the ink hidden.
You may use your quill and/or spellbook as an arcane focus. You gain +1 to all spell accuracy rolls if either of these items are in your hands.
Spellweaving
When you choose to be a Scribe at 2nd level, your understanding of magical words gives you a very slight amount of control over ease of casting and some minor manipulation to spells.
You gain proficiency in Arcana. If you already have this proficiency, you may choose any Intelligence or Wisdom skill to gain proficiency in.
You no longer require somatic components to cast spells and cantrips.
When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can change the damage type to that of a spell of the same level or lower that is in your spellbook. (Ex: You can cast Scorching Ray as poison damage if you know Ray of Sickness, but you can’t cast Ray of Sickness as fire damage unless you know a 1st level spell that deals fire damage.)
Memory Scribing
Starting at level 6, whenever you are in combat and an enemy casts a spell within 120ft, you can make a DC (8 + 3x the casted spell’s level.) Arcana check. If you succeed, you can scribe the casted spell on to a scroll before you take a Long Rest, losing the ability to do so if you Long Rest before scribing the spell. You can then copy the spell on the scroll into your spellbook. This allows you to learn unique spells you usually wouldn’t have access to, or to learn a spell that you wanted but wasn’t high on your list of priorities. Only Scribe wizards can copy the spell from this scroll, but anyone can use it like a consumable.
You may attempt this as many times as you want in a day, but you may only create one Memory Scribing scroll in a day, and it is at your DM’s discretion whether or not you can copy down certain spells you normally wouldn’t have access to.
Enhanced Spellbook
You can now prepare additional spells and cantrips, the number equal to your Intelligence modifier. (Ex: If your Int modifier is +4, you can prepare 2 spells and cantrips, or 4 spells and 0 cantrips, etc.)
You can choose to give your party members some or all of your additional prepared spell slots. You do this after a Long Rest, and can’t change it until you take another Long Rest.
After every short rest, you can regain a level 5 or lower spell slot. You can also choose to grant this to a party member instead.
Absorb Spell
You can manipulate a spell that an opponent casts with verbal or somatic components. Twice per long rest, as a Reaction, you can use Absorb Spell. It acts like a level 4 Counterspell in that it attempts to nullify an enemy’s spell and uses that saving DC if any. However, if Absorb Spell succeeds, the spell is temporarily stored in the Scribe wizard’s spell book. The Scribe Wizard may cast this spell twice per short rest for the rest of the day, without expending a spell slot. Then it follows rules as normal, requiring spell slots to cast. The spell disappears from the Scribe wizard’s spellbook after a long rest.
Scrawl
At level 14, if you are using your book or your quill as a spellcasting focus, you do not need verbal or somatic components to cast spells and cantrips. You can either pluck spells directly from your spellbook and throw them, or write the spell’s words in the air with your quill and cast it that way.
Any time you cast a spell of 3rd level or higher, you gain the ability to cast a spell of 3rd level or lower as a bonus action in the same turn. You can do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, recharging on a Long Rest.
You can cast any Power Word spell that you have prepared without expending a spell slot, once per Long Rest.
