Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

For most barbarians, anger is a weapon to be unleashed on your enemies. However, you have learned to better control your emotions and balance your passion with mindfulness. The path of balance does not reject rage, but rather it seeks to keep rage under control, using either anger or calmness as they are deemed appropriate.

Careful Attack

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can make a careful attack in addition to being able to make a reckless attack. When you make your first attack on your turn, you can decide to attack carefully. Doing so gives you disadvantage on melee weapon attacks rolls using Strength during your turn, but attack rolls against you have disadvantage until the start of your next turn.

Mindful Calm

Beginning at 6th level, in addition to raging, you can enter a focused state of calm. On your turn, you can enter a calm as a bonus action. This counts toward your total number of rages.

While in a state of calm, you gain the following benefits if you aren’t wearing heavy armor:

  • You have advantage on Wisdom checks and Wisdom saving throws.
  • You gain a bonus to your Armor Class equal to your Rage damage bonus.
  • You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.

Your calm lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious. You can also end your calm on your turn as a bonus action or by entering a rage. Entering a calm during a rage ends the rage, and vice versa.

Emotional Temperance

Starting at 10th level, you gain the following benefits:

While in a state of calm, you are immune to the frightened condition. If you enter a calm while you are frightened, the condition ends.

While in a state of rage, you are immune to the charmed condition. If you enter a rage while you are charmed, the condition ends.

You can cast Calm Emotions once per long rest. The spell save DC is 8 + Wisdom modifier + proficiency bonus. You can cast this spell in this way while raging.

Honed Mind

Starting at 14th level, you gain resistance to psychic damage.

Balanced Meditation

Starting at 14th level, you can spend 10 minutes in meditation and regain all uses and rage and also your Calm Emotions feature. The meditation must be undisturbed to work. You may do this during a short rest. This ability may only be used once per short rest.
