Base Class: Monk
In the unseen realm that lies between worlds, were reality and imagination dance as one, there exists a path known only to the monks that seek the knowledge within the 'Gossamer Realm'. Embracing the essence of the ethereal plane, these warriors of ethereal nature become conduits of spectral power. Wielding unseen yet shimmering energy that can cut through the fabric of the veil itself. Their movements are fluid and unpredictable, their strikes swift and precise, as they harness the boundless energy of the ethereal to transcend the limitations of the material world. Masters of the Way of Ethereal Essence utilize the energies leaking into the Material Plane from the Ethereal Plane to bolster their senses and combative abilities, yet carry themselves with unparalleled grace and unfaltering resolve.
Ethereal Blades
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn to use the ethereal veil to send cutting slices of tenuous energy to bolster your unarmed prowess.
You gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action. This special attack can be used in place of any unarmed strike. It has a range of 30 feet, you are proficient with it, and you add your Dexterity modifier to its attack and damage rolls. Its damage is force, and its damage die is a d4. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.
Diaphanous Sense
At 3rd level, you gain an unexplained sixth sense for danger and the supernatural.
Other creatures don't gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being unseen by you. Additionally, you have advantage on perceptions checks made to find things relating to the arcane and the extraplanar.
Ethereal Swap
Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to momentarily traverse the ethereal plane, allowing you to swap positions with a creature hit by your Ethereal Blades. When a creature or object that is not attached to a larger structure is hit by your Ethereal Blades feature, you can spend a ki point to swap spaces with the targeted creature. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks unless the creature resides within the Ethereal Plane.
Tethered Sight
At 6th level, you can use your ki to connect your essence to the Ethereal Plane to see the world and its hidden secrets. As an action, you can spend 3 ki points to cast true seeing with a range of self, without providing material components.
Ethereal Cleave
At 11th level, you gain the ability to unleash a violent wave of sweeping energy drawn from the ethereal plane, striking multiple foes in a straight line. As an action, you can make a special attack against all creatures in a 30 foot line originating from you. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw against your Ki Save DC. On a failed save, a creature takes 9d6 force damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you along the line's direction. On a successful save, the creature only takes half damage.
Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest, unless you spend 3 ki points to use it again.
Unearthly Rend
Starting at 17th level, you learn to draw upon the power of the Ethereal Plane in order to shape the surrounding area. This area originates from you in a 30 feet radius and lasts for 1 minute or until dismissed as a bonus action.
When you create this area as an action, you can designate any number of creatures you can see to be unaffected by it. An affected creature's speed is halved in the area, and when the creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 5d8 force damage. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage. Additionally, when a creature ends its turn in the area, it must succeed a Strength saving throw or be teleported back to the space where they started their turn if they moved, unless they started their turn outside of the area.
Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you spend 5 ki points to use it again.
