Base Class: Monk
When a Monk joins the monastery of the Spectral Fist, they are taught all of the horrors and nightmares that exist on the other planes. They dedicate their lives to forcing what people generalize as "paranormal" or "supernatural" entities to return to their home plane and not return to the Material Plane, either by persuasion or force. Monks of the Way of the Spectral Fist also are more innately connected to these other planes of existence, allowing them to sense more clearly into them. However, these powers come at a cost that vary from ability to ability.
Spectral Visage
Upon choosing this subclass at 3rd level, your training has attuned you to the unseen. You now gain the following benefits:
- You are able to sense if there is an invisible creature or an illusion in a 60 foot radius, as long as the sensation lasts long enough. This sense does not tell you where they specifically are, just that they are within the nearby area.
- As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to gain truesight in a 10 foot radius for six seconds. You are completely blind outside of this area, with not even blindsight or tremorsense working beyond the radius. This range increases to 30 feet at level 10 and 60 feet at level 17.
Ethereal Flames
Also at 3rd level, you have attuned to the spirit inside of you, allowing you to manifest it as ghostly flames. Manifestation does not take an action or bonus action, and the flames will vanish once you dispel them. While the flames are active, you gain the following benefits:
- Your unarmed strikes deal an additional martial arts die of fire damage.
- You shed dim light in a 15 foot radius, along with a comfortable warmth.
There is a downside. Manifesting these flames for an extended period of time does consume you from the inside out. You will suffer these compounding drawbacks until you take a long rest:
- If left for one minute, your ability to sense invisible beings and illusions is halved.
- If left for 10 minutes, you gain a vulnerability to fire damage.
- If left for 30 minutes, you take two levels of exhaustion.
- If left for 1 hour, you begin to take 1 damage every minute.
- If left for 2 hours, the flames blaze up, fully consuming your corporeal form, and you remain as a visible spirit, unable to see, hear, or interact with the corporeal world anymore.
The timer will not reset unless you take a long rest, even after you dispel these flames without any drawbacks.
Incorporeal
At 6th level, you gain the ability to discard your physical self for a short time. As an action, you can go incorporeal for 12 seconds. While incorporeal, you cannot attack nor can you be attacked. You can pass through solid objects as if they were not there. If you come back to your physical being inside of a solid object, you take (1d10) force damage. You may do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Armor of the Animus
When you reach 11th level in this subclass, your paranormal training has given you more control over your mind, body, and soul. As a bonus action, you can spend 3 ki points to gain resistance to one elemental damage types (acid, cold, fire, force, lightning, necrotic, poison, psychic, radiant, thunder) and one non-magical physical damage type (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing) of your choice for one minute. If you are already resistant to a specific damage type, you may not choose it to gain an immunity to that damage type.
While under the effects of Armor of the Animus, your movement speed is halved, which will stack with other slowness debuffs, including the one from Ethereal Flames.
Awakening
At 17th level, you have become so attuned to the spiritual world that you have unlocked the full potential of the spirit inside of you. As an action, you can spend 4 ki points to fully unshackle your spirit's latent capabilities for one minute. While in this Awakened state, you get the following benefits.
- You get a +2 to AC, +10 to your base movement speed, and one additional reaction per round.
- You are under the effects of both Spectral Visage and Ethereal Flames without any of the drawbacks. If you were already using Ethereal Flames, this will reset your timer, and will not activate the timer until the Awakened state is ended.
- As a reaction, you can nullify one instance of damage and hit that target for half of the damage you would have taken.
Once you leave the Awakened state, you are unable to use any of your Spectral Fist abilities for two turns.
