Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

In the bustling cities and clandestine alleys of the world, Charlatans thrive, weaving their fortunes amidst the chaos of urban life. These ostentatious figures are adept at the arts of deception and enchantment, captivating unsuspecting onlookers with their mystic prowess, only to swiftly exploit them for their own gain. Masters of both blade and arcane word, they are coveted allies and feared adversaries alike.

Whether their intentions lean towards altruism or exploitation, one thing remains constant: Charlatans wield the power to manipulate the secrets of the mind and heart, bending them to their whims. With an outstretched hand, a wry smile, and a glint of mischief in their eyes, they are a true charlatan in every sense of the word.

Spellcasting

When you reach 3rd level, you gain the ability to cast spells. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the bard spell list.

Cantrips

You learn three cantrips of your choice from the bard spell list. You learn another bard cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Charlatan Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your bard spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell charm person and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast charm person using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level bard spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the divination or enchantment spells on the bard spell list.

The Spells Known column of the Charlatan Spellcasting table shows when you learn more bard spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be a divination or enchantment spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the bard spells you know with another spell of your choice from the bard spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be a divination or enchantment spell, unless you’re replacing the spell you gained at 3rd, 8th, 14th, or 20th level from any school of magic.

Spellcasting Ability

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your bard spells, as your magic comes from your innate charm, creativity, and force of personality. You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a bard spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Street Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with one gaming set of your choice. You can use a gaming set you are proficient with as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.

You also gain proficiency in the Performance skill if you don’t already have it.

Magician's Gambit

Finally at 3rd level, you gain the ability to strike out with your magic as you attempt to flee or hide, providing you with a last ditch distraction. Immediately after you use your Cunning Action, you can make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 60 feet of you, provided you haven't used your Sneak Attack this turn. You are proficient with it, and you add your Charisma modifier to its attack and damage rolls. A creature hit by this attack takes force damage equal to your Sneak Attack. This uses your Sneak Attack for the turn.

Trick Up The Sleeve

Starting at 9th level, when you deal damage to a creature with your Sneak Attack, that creature has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes against one of your bard spells until the end of your next turn.

Magical Secrets

At 13th level, you learn two spells of your choice from any class. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Wild Card table, or a cantrip. The chosen spells count as bard spells for you but don’t count against the number of bard spells you know.

Trickster's Mirage

At 17th level, you can now use your Cunning Action to teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you, leaving behind a perfect illusory duplicate of yourself in the space you left. This duplicate lasts until the start of your next turn. You have advantage on all attacks made against creatures within 5 feet of your duplicate.
