Oath of Love (Remastered)

The Oath of Love holds a Paladin to the purest ideals and dreams of humanity, those of compassion and love for themselves and those they hold dear. Paladins who hold this oath true to their heart walk a path of understanding and caring, working to make the world a better place for the ones who’ve earned their hearts space.

Love comes in many forms, whether it’s toward an individual such as a spouse, sibling, parent, child, a dear friend or an ideal such as dreams and hope. Many who swear this oath swear it as a promise not just to others, but to themselves as well- a solemn promise to make it through the cold nights together.

 

Tenets of love

Though the exact words and strictures of the Oath of Love vary, paladins of this oath embody these tenets.

Passion - Make your love known, undeniable, and as bright as the night sky. Know the day will come where we must leave everything behind, even those we hold dear. Leave nothing to chance.

Devotion - Devote yourself to be the best person you can be, and to inspire others to chase after the best version of themselves. It's a blessing to be alive after all, it'd be wrong not to make the most of it regardless of where this life may lead you.

Equality - Allow everyone an equal chance and opportunity to make themselves known. Trust in those around you and show yourself the same love you do others. Your compassion will be tested time and time again by a cruel and unfeeling world, yet this world shouldn't change you.

Determination - Do not allow yourself or others to quit, strive to encourage both yourself and others to move past their own shortcomings and emerge unfairly happy. Know it’s okay to cry, but do not give into despair.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

 

Gentle Caress. You may use your channel divinity to restore vitality to those you hold dear. As a bonus action, you may use your Lay on Hands feature and your Lay on Hands range increases to 30 feet. Additionally you may distribute health to multiple willing targets within range from your Lay on Hands pool. You may affect a number of targets equivalent to 1 + your Charisma modifier.

Vow of Love. You may use your channel divinity to strengthen the connection between your soul and another. As an action, choose one friendly target within 10 feet of you. For the next 24 hours, both you and the target gain a bonus to AC equal to half your Proficiency bonus and share proficiency in saving throws whilst within 30 feet of each other. Also, each time that target takes damage whilst within 30 feet of you, you may expend your reaction to split the damage evenly between each other. Damage split this way is reduced by one roll of your Hit Die.

The effect ends if you and the target become separated by more than 60 feet. It also ends if the ability is used again on another creature before the effect ends. You may dismiss the effect at any time.

 At level 18, the range at which Vow of Love takes effect becomes 60 feet and the separation distance becomes 120 feet.

Aura of Empathy

Starting at 7th level, you can prevent allies in danger from suffering in exchange for enduring the pain. When a creature within 10 feet of you fails a saving throw, you may use your reaction to make an ally pass instead. To use this reaction you must have first passed, and it only works if you then fail, anything stopping you from failing stops this reaction from taking effect.

Additionally whilst not in combat with a creature within your aura, you may add your Proficiency bonus to Persuasion checks and Insight checks made to interact with them. This effect does not take hold if you're already applying your Proficiency Bonus from another source.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Unbreakable Bond

Starting at 15th level, the authority with which you speak your Vow of Love enforces the bond between your souls. On your turn, as a bonus action you may choose to mystically begin a coordinated attack, allowing your bonded target to make an attack as a reaction.

Additionally when you have a bonded ally, you can make any Paladin spell you cast that targets only you also target your bonded target.

Boundless Vow

At 20th level, you may empower your vow to protect into something that transcends time. As a bonus action, you may choose one additional willing target for your Vow of Love. This additional target is only under the effects of your bond for 1 minute.

•  You and your bonded targets now have resistance on damage caused from saving throws if at least two of you are targeted by the same effect.
•  You and bonded targets within range of your vow now have advantage on attacks made against the same creature.
  
•  Your bonded targets and you may now move on the same turn so long as you end within 10 feet of each other.

 

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
