Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of the Nullifying Hand represents a rebirth/reinterpretation of an ancient order described in a collection of scrolls found in a mountain fastness on the Altairan side of the southern Last Kin Mountains. These scrolls discuss the use of ki to interrupt the flow of Primordy in the magics of arcanists, and lay out the stated mission of the monks: to act as a balance against the mages of the Prismatic Colleges.

Reborn under the auspices of the Watchers of the Weave, this new school of monks seeks to assist those concerned with the dangers of unfettered Primordy wielders in the wake of the planting. The Way of the Nullifying Hand monastic practice allows you to use precise movements and rapid shifting arcs to crimp local flow of Primordy, dispelling, redirecting, countering, and ultimately deadening Primordy in the vicinity.

Counterweave Form

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to use your ki to disrupt magical energies. You gain the following features:

  • When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you casts a spell, you can use your reaction and spend 2 ki points to attempt to interrupt the spell. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw against your ki save DC. On a failed save, the creature's spell fails and has no effect.
  • When you damage a creature that is concentrating on a spell, that creature has disadvantage on the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells cast by creatures within 5 feet of you.

Weave Sense

At 6th level, your attunement to the flow of magical energies allows you to sense nearby spellcasters. You can spend 1 ki point to focus your senses as an action, gaining the ability to detect magic as per the detect magic spell, but with a range of 60 feet and no need for concentration. Additionally, you can use your action to spend 2 ki points to learn the number, location, and type of spellcasters (arcane, divine, etc.) within 120 feet of you, as long as they are not hidden behind total cover.

Nullifying Palm

Starting at 11th level, you can use your ki to sever a creature's connection to the Weave temporarily. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 ki points to force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is unable to cast spells or concentrate on spells for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

Void in the Weave

At 17th level, you have mastered the ability to create a zone of nullified magic. As an action, you can spend 6 ki points to create an area of antimagic, as per the antimagic field spell, centered on yourself with a radius of 10 feet. This field moves with you and lasts for 1 minute. During this time, you can spend 1 ki point at the start of your turn to extend the duration by 1 additional round.

Additionally, when you are in this field, you gain resistance to damage from spells and advantage on saving throws against spells.
