Base Class: Fighter
Those who dabble in the dark arts of death and necromancy often gravitate towards becoming a Grimshroud. Grimshrouds are bringers of death, sacrificing the souls of the innocent to gain the powers of night. Each of the abilities a Grimshroud has can be called by their shadow name, which tells you their function, or their more artistic main name.
Soulbound Weaponry
You forge a pact with the shadows, binding a portion of your soul to your chosen weapon. As a bonus action, you can summon forth your ethereal blade, which manifests as a spectral weapon of your choice (longsword, greataxe, etc.). This weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances. Additionally, when you hit a creature with your ethereal blade, you can choose to deal necrotic damage instead of the weapon's normal damage type.
Eyes of the Night
Through your communion with the darkness, your eyes become attuned to the shadows that shroud the world. At 3rd level, you gain the ability to see clearly in darkness, even in the deepest depths where light fears to tread. You gain darkvision with a range of 120 feet.
With your newfound sight, the veil of night holds no secrets from you. Shadows whisper truths that elude the mortal eye, and the depths of darkness become your domain. Whether stalking through moonlit forests or delving into the depths of ancient crypts, you navigate the obsidian realms with unmatched clarity, a true master of the shadows.
Shadow Step
You learn to manipulate shadows to move swiftly across the battlefield. As a bonus action, you can teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space that you can see, cloaking yourself in a 10ft cube darkness during the teleportation. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Death's Boon
You deepen your connection to the realm of death, allowing you to harness its power more effectively. You gain resistance to necrotic damage, and when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points, you can choose to regain hit points equal to your fighter level + your Constitution modifier. Also, when in dim light or darkness, you gain advantage on stealth checks and +1 AC.
Dreadful Omen
With each strike of your weapon, you unleash a foreboding presence that sends shivers down the spine of your enemies. Upon successfully hitting a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can invoke the Dreadful Omen. The targeted creature must make a Wisdom saving throw against a DC equal to the total damage dealt by the attack plus your proficiency bonus.
Failure on the saving throw results in the creature suffering 2d8 necrotic damage and being gripped by fear, becoming Frightened of you until the end of its next turn. Should your attack land as a critical hit, you not only invoke dread upon your foe but also draw vitality from their despair, gaining 3d8 temporary hit points that linger for 1 hour. This ominous ability serves as a harrowing testament to your command over the forces of death and darkness.
Reaper's Resilience
You become a harbinger of death, shrugging off mortal wounds with ease. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can choose to drop to 1 hit point instead. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. Additionally, you gain advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
