Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The School of Familiars focuses on the summoning and study of various creatures of the multiverse. Wizards of this school are able to sustain bigger and more powerful familiars, making them suitable for more demanding tasks, including combat. Practitioners of this school might view their summons as good friends, pets or merely tools. However, all of them share a deep understanding and knowledge about creatures of all kinds.

Arcane Bestiary

Beginning when you select this school at 2nd level, you gain heightened knowledge about creatures. You choose to gain proficiency in either the Arcana or the Nature skill. Your proficiency bonus is doubled whenever you use one of these skills to recall knowledge about a creature.

Combat Familiar

Beginning at 2nd level, you gain the ability to summon powerful familiars into your service. You add the Find Familiar spell to your spellbook if it is not there already. When you cast this spell, the summoned creature gains the following benefits:

  • The creature can use the form and statistics of a beast with a CR of 1/4 or lower.
  • It gains the ability to use the attack action.
  • The creature's hit point maximum is increased by an amount equal to twice your wizard level.
  • The creature adds your proficiency bonus to its weapon damage rolls.

Additionally, you can use a bonus action to expend one spell slot to heal one of your conjured creatures by 1d8 hit points per level of the spell slot expended, plus your Intelligence modifier.

Destructive Summons

Starting at 6th level, your summons grow even fiercer. The damage from attacks made by your conjured creatures is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming immunity and resistance to nonmagical attacks and damage.

In addition, you can now summon creatures with the form and statistics of a beast with a CR of 1/2 or lower when casting your Find Familiar spell.

Invigoration

Beginning at 10th level, you can use your magic to energize your conjured beings. When you use a bonus action to heal one of your summoned creatures by spending one or more spell slots, the targeted creature has advantage on attack rolls until the start of your next turn.

Additionally, you can now conjure creatures with the form and statistics of a beast with a CR of 1 or lower when casting your Find Familiar spell.

Familiar Mastery

Starting at 14th level, you can gain the service of multiple familiars. When you cast your Find Familiar spell, you can conjure and control a maximum number of two instead of one creature at a time.

Finally, you can cast Find Familiar as an action without expending a spell slot or needing spell components. Once you cast Find Familiar in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest, though you can still cast it normally using an available spell slot.
