Base Class: Wizard

Bibliomancers are wizards who tap into the arcane power of written words, believing that books are repositories of infinite wisdom. Their magic often manifests in unpredictable ways, guided by the random turning of pages.

Discovery Moment

Starting at 2nd level, whenever you find yourself in need of guidance, you can consult your notes and spellbook for advice. As an action, you can open your spellbook (or another book you've written) to a random page to cast one of the following spells without expending a spell slot: identify, comprehend languages, or detect magic. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Scripted Redesign

At 6th level, you have learned to redesign and influence other people's spells. Whenever you copy a spell into your spellbook from another source such as a scroll or someone else's spellbook, you can copy over that spell exactly but with a new damage type and new materials equal in value to the original. For example, if you discover a scroll of flaming sphere, you can spend 4 hours and 100 gp to copy "Acid Sphere" into your spellbook instead; perhaps instead using the materials of a handful of rust, a pinch of vinegar, and a bit of treated paper instead of the original materials. Every time you cast this spell, the sphere would deal acid damage instead of fire damage.

Once you copy this changed spell over, you can spend the same amount of time and gold to copy the original spell back into your spellbook, but not another damage variant.

Footnote Cantrips

At 10th level, you gain the ability to embed small random snippets of arcane knowledge into your spells. Whenever you cast a spell of 4th level or higher, roll a d20. On a roll of 19 or 20, you must immediately cast any one cantrip from the wizard's spell list as part of your casting of the original spell. You choose the cantrip that you cast during the spell and this cantrip can't be counterspelled, nor does the cantrip count as casting a spell. You also choose whether its affects precede the spell or if the cantrip's effects come after the spell.

Master Bibliomancer

Starting at 14th level, you can unleash the full power of your books. As an action, you can perform a ritual reading, which allows you to cast one of the following spells without expending a spell slot: divination, contact other plane, or legend lore. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you complete a long rest.
