Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The Arcane Tradition of Haematology is not for the faint of heart. Usually practised by those mages looking to augment their skills with the strength of others. While the practices employed by these wizards do often revolve around the blood of their targets, the true prize is the life force that exists in every living being. Practitioners of Haematology use this energy to bolster their connection to the Weave and push beyond the limits of what they should be capable of. This group is also often very scientific and almost snobbish in their approach to the red gold they seek. Some take to collecting a multitude of blood samples from a wide variety of creatures, so they can always adapt to the situation at hand using Secrets of Blood. Others will keep summoned creatures around as a constant source of energy, using them to ensure they always have a full supply of Beads of Ichor. However the individual goes about it, all those that engage in this tradition do so for the sake of power, no matter the cost.

Ichor Stockpile

At 2nd Level you gain the ability to use the life blood of your enemies to enhance your own magical capabilities. When you successfully damage a creature with a spell of 1st Level or higher you can choose to use a bonus action to siphon some of the life force from their body and gain one Bead of Ichor. You can have a number of these equal to you Intelligence Modifier at a time. When you cast a spell you can expend a Bead of Ichor to cast it at one level higher than the spell thatt you are using, and when you do this you cannot gain any Beads of Ichor until the start of your next turn.

Secrets of Blood

At 6th Level you can use the blood of other creatures to replicate some of their features. Once per long rest you spend an hour absorbing at least one vial's worth of another creature's blood you can choose one of the following features to apply to yourself until your next long rest.

  • Proficiency in one of the same saving throws the creature does
  • Resistance to one type of damage that the creature has resistance to
  • One sense, e.g. darkvision, tremorsense etc, that the creature possesses

Revitalising Ichor

At 10th Level the life blood you take from your enemies can now bring life to you. Whenever you expend a Bead of Ichor to enhance your spells you can use a bonus action to absorb the remnants of that energy and gain temporary hit points equal to your Wizard Level.

A Bloody Miracle

At 14th Level the life force that you take becomes almost too powerful to be constrained. Once per long rest, when you cast a spell of first level or higher, you can expend as many Beads of Ichor as you have available to you to cast that spell without spending a spell slot, and cast it at the spells level + the number of Beads of Ichor you expended.
