Base Class: Monk
While most who seek perfection of the mind and body espouse the virtues of temperance and discipline, others argue that such fruits are only temporary. Balance, order, and law are feeble attempts to stave off the inevitable spiraling dissolution of entropy. Chaos is the stuff of creation, the creativity of the gods, and the birth of the universe. These individuals preach that nothing can withstand pure chaos and therefore to embrace this reality opens the gate to the truth of the multiverse. On the other hand, those who train in chaos fuse their minds and bodies to pure chaos, entropy, and constant change. They forget what they know. They dream immortal dreams. They step beyond reality and let their thoughts and actions be driven only by each fleeting moment they exist.
Entropic Jaunt
At 6th level, you learn to trigger rifts within the realms of chaos. Whenever an opponent strikes you in combat, you can spend a ki point as a reaction to cause a chaos rift that triggers one of the following spell effects as cast by a 6th-level spellcaster. After taking damage from the attack, roll 1d4 to determine which spell effect you trigger.
Chaos Conduit
At 11th level, your body transforms into a natural conduit for pure chaos energy. The type of damage you deal shifts randomly whenever you attack an opponent with a monk weapon or your unarmed strike. Roll 1d12 to determine the type of damage you inflict.
d12 Result d12 Result
1 acid 7 piercing
2 cold 8 poison
3 fire 9 psychic
4 force 10 radiant
5 lightning 11 slashing
6 necrotic 12 thunder
You can spend a ki point to stabilize the energy, preventing it from shifting. If you stabilize the energy, each round you do not release it with an attack, the chaos accumulates in your body.
On the 1st round, any attack you make with an unarmed strike or monk weapon deals an additional 2d8 points of the damage type you have stabilized. Alternately, you can shape the energy into a ball and hurl it at an opponent as a ranged attack with a range of 30 ft. Each additional round, the damage increases by 1d8 to a maximum number of rounds equal to your
monk proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier. You must release the energy before it reaches maximum capacity. If you do not make an attack on or before the maximum number of rounds, the chaos explodes, dealing 8d8 points of the accumulated damage type to you and every creature in a 20-foot‑radius blast centered on you.
Will of Chaos
At 17th level, the chaos monk can bond themselves and others to the whimsically capricious energies of pure chaos, causing extreme chaos warps, ripping of time and space, and surges of entropy. You can spend two ki points to activate Will of Chaos, then roll 1d4 to trigger one of the following random effects.
d4 Result
1–2 Chaos Transformation. On a roll of 1, you force your opponent to make a successful Wisdom saving throw
or polymorph into a random creature as per the polymorph spell cast by a 15th-level spellcaster. On a roll of 2,
you polymorph yourself.
3–4 Entropic Shift. On a roll of 3, you force a number of opponents equal to 1 + your Wisdom modifier to shift
into an alternate plane as if affected by the planeshift spell cast by a 15th-level spell caster. On a roll of 4, you
planeshift yourself and up to 5 additional allies.
Chaos Strike
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can transform ki into pure chaos to create powerful random effects when you attack opponents with an unarmed strike or monk weapon. You can spend 1 ki point to imbue your fists or monk weapon with chaotic energy. When your strike hits, you roll 1d4 to determine which effect the chaos triggers. To avoid its effect, your opponent must make the appropriate save against your attack (DC 8 + your proficiency modifier + your Wisdom bonus). On a successful save, your attack deals its normal unarmed strike damage.
1 A blast of chaos rips through your opponent’s mind. They must make a successful Wisdom save, or your attack deals psychic damage and staggers the opponent, forcing them to make their next action or save at disadvantage.
2 Your blow disrupts a chakra in your opponent’s stomach, forcing them to make a successful Constitution save or take poison damage, drop their weapon, and spend their next turn vomiting.
3 You trigger an entropic ripple which forces the opponent to make a successful Dexterity save or take force damage as the ripple knocks them back 10 feet.
4 Your opponent must make a successful Wisdom save to avoid being affected by a hideous laughter spell.
Optional Rule. If you want more chaos, your GM may also allow Chaos Strike to trigger whenever you roll a critical hit with a monk weapon or unarmed strike. The triggered effect replaces dealing double damage on a critical hit.
Driven By Chaos
Starting at 3rd level whenever you channel your ki, you must transform the energy into pure chaos. This action is incredibly strenuous and causes your eyes to cloud over. Your eyes become pupilless milky orbs, effectively blinding you of normal vision in order for you to see the swirling entropy of pure chaos. Whenever you use ki to activate one of your monk abilities, replace your normal sight with blindsight 90 ft. Your normal sight returns after a long rest; however, many who follow the way of chaos channel pure chaos so frequently that the condition is effectively permanent.
