Base Class: Monk
An exiled warrior, honing skill with blade and bow.
Martial Focus
At 3rd level, Choose two types of weapons to be your focus weapons: one melee weapon and one ranged weapon. Each of these weapons can be any simple or martial weapon that lacks the heavy and special properties. The longbow is also a valid choice. You gain proficiency with these weapons if you don’t already have it. Weapons of the chosen types are monk weapons for you.
In addition, you gain proficiency in Wisdom (Insight) checks, as well as proficiency in your choice of calligrapher's supplies, forgery kit, or vehicles (land or water).
Focus Forms
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to enter combat forms that focus on specific traits.
You learn two forms when you gain this ability. When you reach 11th level in this class, you learn an additional form, and may replace any forms you know with another from this list.
To enter a form, you may spend Ki points, up to half your Monk level (rounded down, maximum of 5). Each form lasts for 1 minute, unless otherwise specified, or until you choose to end it (no action required.) You may only activate one form at a time, until you reach 11th level in this class.
Soresu- A defensive form, focused on deflecting blows and frustrating opponents. While in this form, you gain a bonus to AC equal to the number of Ki points spent. Subtract the same number from your attack rolls. When a creature rolls an attack against you, you may use your reaction to make an attack against that creature with a focus weapon, without the penalty from this form. If you spend 5 Ki points to enter this form, you may make two attacks as a reaction, instead of one.
Ataru- A mobile form, focused on combating multiple foes. While in this form, your speed increases by 5 feet for every 2 Ki points you spent to enter the form (rounded up). When you take the attack action during your turn, you may make one additional attack with a focus weapon, provided it targets a creature you haven't already attacked this turn. If you move at least 10 feet before making an attack, your reach for that attack increases by 5 ft. If you spend 5 Ki points to enter this form, you may make two additional attacks, instead of one.
Juyo- An aggressive form, focused on all out assaults, using fast, heavy strikes. While in this form, you gain a bonus to attack and damage equal to the number of Ki points spent. Subtract the same number from your AC. If you spend 5 Ki points to enter this form, your focus weapons deal additional damage equal to a roll of your Martial Arts Die.
Niman- A balanced form, focused on neither offense nor defense, but some mixture of both. While in this form, you gain a bonus to attack rolls with your focus weapons, as well as your AC, each equal to half the number of Ki points spent to enter the form (rounded up). When you take damage, you can use a reaction to reduce the damage by an amount equal to half your Wisdom modifier (rounded down). When you deal damage, you can use a reaction to increase the damage by an amount equal to half your Wisdom modifier (rounded down). If you spend 5 Ki points to enter this form, you don't need to use reactions to increase damage dealt or reduce damage taken.
Shien- A mental form, focusing on assessing foes and the surroundings, gaining the upper hand through tactics and wits. This form lasts for a number of minutes equal to twice your Wisdom modifier. While in this form, you gain a bonus to Insight, Perception and Stealth checks equal to the number of Ki points spent. If you spend at least 1 minute assessing a situation, (such as a creature or group of creatures, a bar, a city street, a bridge, a clearing, or similar areas), you gain a bonus to your Initiative checks equal to your Wisdom modifier. If you spend 5 Ki points to enter this form, other creatures are considered surprised on the first round of combat, if you've assessed the situation.
Deepened Focus
Starting at 6th level, when you enter a form, you gain a bonus from another form you know, chosen when you enter the form.
Soresu- While in the form, you gain a bonus to saving throws equal to the number of Ki points spent.
Ataru- While in the form, you ignore difficult terrain, and attacks of opportunity against you are made with disadvantage.
Juyo- While in the form, once per turn, when you make an attack using a focus weapon with advantage, you may forgo the advantage to make an additional attack with a focus weapon.
Niman- When you enter the form, and at the start of each of your turns in that form, you gain temporary hit points equal to twice the number of Ki points spent.
Shien- While in the form, you can use a bonus action to grant yourself or an ally bonuses, or hinder an enemy, based on the ability check you choose to make. You can make an Insight check, contested by a creatures Deception check, to grant yourself or an ally advantage on the next attack against that enemy before the start of your next turn. You can make a Perception check (DM determines DC), to survey the surroundings. If you succeed, allies within 15 feet of you (including yourself), may use their reaction to move up to half their speed to an unoccupied space they can see. You can make a Stealth check (Opposed roll or DC?) to grant yourself or an ally half-cover until the start of your next turn.
Split Focus
Starting at 11th level, you learn an additional Focus Form from that list.
In addition, you gain the ability to enter a second form while in the first. You may only spend up to 3 ki points to enter the second form.
Mastered Focus
At 17th level, when you enter each form the first time, you regain the ki points spent after the form ends. You regain the use of this ability for each form after you finish a long rest.
