Base Class: Paladin
A follower of the Oath of The Damned is one of a special case. Your very soul has been combined with a dark entity, be it demon, devil, or something unkown. This can happen through many paths, but the entity must usually be sealed within its new vessel. This usually takes the form of magical markings resembling tattoos, but can be as unique as the those effected.
The goal of this entity is always the same: the control of your mind and body. Everyday you fight your most basic fears and instincts. It is the only thing that keeps the monster at bay. If ever you fail, then you risk giving your mind and body over to this malevolent force. A force who wants to do inexplicable harm to those around you.
However, things are hardly so cut and dry. You can release your control, just a bit, and gain immense power and abilities. Perhaps this is a gift in disguise? What if you used this power you've been given to do good? What if thats just what the demon wants
Because the entity that resides within you requires your body and mind, you have chosen to take an oath to never allow this to happen. And because of the twisted path you travel, you vow to never allow suffering, hate, or this same curse to befall others.
The Oath of the Damned follows these rules (or similar)
- No negative emotion in any extreme: Sadness, despair, or fear can cause you to lose control
- Bring joy to those around you: Positive feelings empowers you, and weakens your advesary
- Always forgive: Revenge is the path of the devil, and will only empower the demon within.
- Your life will be spent learning to control this curse
- If You can protect others, then you must take the chance to do so
- If someone is hurt because of the evil you carry, you will find retribution.
This oath gives you power. But the demon that is joined to your soul can offer power as well. Every inch you give in, is just a little more power. But how far can you go until its too late?
The War for your Soul
`You must always be vigilent against the adversary within. It desires to gain its freedom by controlling you and your soul.
At level 3, when taking the Oath of the Damned you will recieve Levels of Possession , starting at level 0, and opportunities to gain levels. The levels are as follows:
Possession Level 0 - DC 7
Possession Level 1 - DC 12
Possession Level 2 - DC 17
Possesion Level 3 - DC 22
Possesion Level 4 - DC 27
Possession Level 5 - DC 32
When making a Wisdom Saving throw for the level of possesion, you make a DC above your current possession level. For example, if you are at possession level 1, you make a DC against possession level 2 .
There are a few ways to gain or lose levels of possession
- When bloodied (lower than half of your max health)
- On a fail, the entity takes control and attacks the nearest creature, friend or foe. Make a save at the top of every round until successful.
- On a success, you go down 1 possession level (lowest is 0)
- when affected by the "afraid" status effect
- On a fail, the entity takes control and attacks the nearest creature, friend or foe. Make a save at the top of every round until successful. You must make a wisdom save until the afraid status has ended
- On a success, you go down 1 possession level (lowest is 0).
- When using a demonic ability.
- On a fail, you DO NOT lose control, but take a level of possession
- On a success, you go down 1 possession level (lowest is 0)
- On a long rest you go down 1 possesion level
If ever you reach Possesion Level 5 you will have lost your soul, and the demon within will have been freed.

Channel the Divine or the Infernal (channel divinity)
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options. These Options cannot be used if you have used a Channel Infernal before taking a short or long rest.
Mind of Tranquility - As a bonus action on your turn, you can give yourself advantage on all weapon attack rolls until the end of the current turn. When you do so, you also gain a bonus +2 to AC. The number of bonus points increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to +3 at 10th level and +4 at 15th level.
Provoked to Action - You can use your Channel Divinity to rebuke those who use violence. Immediately after an attacker within 30 feet of you deals damage with an attack against a creature other than you, you can use your reaction to force the attacker to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes radiant damage equal to the damage it just dealt. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage.
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you also gain the following two Channel Infernal options. These Options cannot be used if you have used a Channel Divinity before taking a short or long rest.
After activation, make a wisdom save against the possession level above your current. for example, if you are at possession level 1, make a save against the DC of level 2. On a fail, take a level of possession.
Voice of the Devil - As an action, you speak with the power of a demon. You can cast either the command, charm person, or dissonant whispers spells at a level you are able to cast.
Abyssal Strength - You allow the demonic power within to flow through you. As a bonus action, you channel the Infernal to add 1d6 damage to your weapon attacks and 1d4 of another damage type of your choice. Your weapon attacks also become magical weapon attacks. this lasts for 1d4 + your possession level rounds. At level 10 this increases to 2d6 and 2d4, and 3d6 and 3d4 at level 15.
Aura of Stillness or Aura of a Demon
You can choose to emit 1 of two of these auras at a time. If you choose to emit your demonic aura, you must make a possession level save and go up a level upon a fail.
Aura of Stillness - You portray such a sense of calm steely determination that friendly creatures within 10 feet of you gain advantage on saves and skill checks.
Aura of a Demon - you exude the power that lives within yourself. Gain a +5 bonus on all intimidation checks. Upon activation, you cause anyone within 10 feet to make a wisdom saving throw. On a failure they become frightened and their speed becomes 0
At 18th level, the range of these auras increase to 30 feet.
Un-natural Protection
Starting at 15th level, your unholy companion mends your wounds in battle. You regain hit points equal to 2d8 + your possession level if you end your turn in combat with fewer than half of your hit points remaining and you aren’t incapacitated.
Redemption of the Damned
At 20th level, you find true balance with the darkness, and your forms combine. This gives you two benefits:
- Your form increases in strength and ability. You have resistance to all damage dealt by other creatures (their attacks, spells, and other effects), your base speed becomes 45, and you get +5 to all Strength, Dexterity, and Wisdom rolls (saves, skills, attack, damage).
- You no longer have levels of possession. You can preform any demonic ablility that would normaly require a wisdom save without doing so.
