Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The School of Monster Magic delves into the intricate study and emulation of monster abilities, elevating the Wizard's spellcasting prowess to new heights of adaptability and versatility. Wizards of this school, known as Monster Mages, possess a keen eye for magical phenomena and an insatiable curiosity for the diverse powers wielded by creatures across the realms.

The School of Monster Magic transforms encounters into opportunities for learning and growth, as Monster Mages assimilate arcane knowledge from foes and allies alike. Their spell books become eclectic collections of spells and abilities mirroring the rich tapestry of magical diversity found in the natural world.

In battle, Monster Mages wield a fluid and dynamic spellcasting style, seamlessly integrating observed abilities with their own arcane repertoire. They become masters of adaptation, turning enemy strengths against them and unlocking hidden potentials within their own magic.

Whether as intrepid explorers of magical phenomena or as cunning tacticians on the battlefield, Monster Mages are revered for their ingenuity, resourcefulness, and boundless pursuit of magical mastery. Their legacy echoes through the ages as testament to the limitless possibilities of Monster Magic.

Arcane Observance

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to observe and learn magical abilities from creatures you encounter. When you see a creature with a CR equal to or less than your Wizard level using a non-weapon and non-legendary ability, you can use your reaction to make an Arcana check (DC = 8 + Monster CR). On a successful check, you learn the ability and can use it via your Monster Mimicry Class Feature.
Such abilities include (but are not limited to): A Giant Frog's Swallow ability, The Breath Weapon of a Dragon, or the Scare ability of a Quasit.

Once learned, these abilities are stored in your spell book. You may only have a number of these abilities prepared equal to your Proficiency Modifier. You may change these abilities out on long rest in the same manner as spells

Monster Mimicry

Starting at 2nd level, your studies of magical creatures and their abilities allow you to temporarily mimic the abilities you have observed and memorized.
These abilities copy the To-Hit, Save DCs, Damage and any other effects from the creature you learned it from.

You can use your Monster Mimicry a number of times equal your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all expended uses of Monster Mimicry after finishing a long rest.

Adaptive Casting

Beginning at 6th level, whenever you cast one of your normal Wizard spells, you can expend a use of your Monster Mimicry to change the damage type of the spell to a damage type from one of the Monster Abilities you have prepared.

Master of Assimilation

Starting at 10th level, your mastery of magical assimilation deepens. When you learn an ability through Arcane Observation, you can cast it immediately as part of your reaction in learning the ability (still expending the Monster Mimicry point). Additionally, you gain advantage on saving throws against monster abilities you have in your spell book.

Perfect Adaptation

At 14th level, You have achieved a perfect understanding of the abilities you have assimilated. When you complete a long rest, you may pick one damage type from a monster ability you have in your spell book and gain resistance to that damage type until your next long rest.

Additionally, using 1 Monster Mimicry point and an Action, you may give yourself resistance to another damage type of one of the monster abilities you have prepared. This effect lasts for 1 minute and does not stack.
