Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

The Scholar of Secrets is an intriguing subclass of Rogue, marked by a blend of keen investigative prowess and profound scholarly knowledge. These Rogues step beyond the shadows traditionally associated with their kind, embracing the roles of both detective and sage. Armed with an insatiable curiosity and a knack for piecing together puzzles, they dedicate their lives to the pursuit of knowledge—unearthing hidden truths, deciphering ancient scripts, and unlocking secrets that have been shrouded in mystery for ages.

Their approach to the rogue's craft is cerebral and methodical. Scholars of Secrets use their intellectual acumen to manipulate information, turning secrets into weapons as potent as any blade. They are masters of gathering intelligence, skilled in observation, and adept in both conventional and arcane means of uncovering information. Whether infiltrating a heavily guarded archive or negotiating in the underbelly of a thieves' guild, these Rogues thrive in any environment where information is the ultimate currency.

The path of a Scholar of Secrets is often solitary, driven by personal quests for truth and understanding. Their deep dives into esoteric knowledge frequently lead them into danger, as they unearth plots and secrets that powerful individuals and entities would prefer to keep hidden. Despite the risks, these Rogues are driven by the belief that truth is a powerful ally, and knowledge a shield and sword in their hands. In a world rife with deception and hidden agendas, the Scholar of Secrets shines as a beacon of insight and intellect.

Cryptic Knowledge

You gain proficiency in the History skill. If you are already proficient in History, you gain proficiency in another skill of your choice. Additionally, you can use a bonus action to make a Wisdom (Insight) check to decipher an opponent's tactics or a Wisdom (Perception) check to spot hidden objects or details.

Analytical Mind

You have honed your ability to piece together clues and make deductions that others might miss. When you make an Intelligence (Investigation) or Intelligence (Arcana) check, you can add twice your proficiency bonus. You also learn the Detect Magic spell and can cast it once per long rest without using a spell slot.

Echoes of the Past II

You can touch a surface or object and understand significant past events associated with it. You spend 1 minute in concentration, after which you learn one piece of historical or magical information determined by the DM, based on your Investigation check result. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Master of Misdirection

You can use your cunning and knowledge to manipulate others. As a bonus action, you can make a Charisma (Deception) check contested by a target's Wisdom (Insight). If you succeed, the target is deceived by you for the next minute, during which time your attacks against them have advantage, and they have disadvantage on attack rolls against you. This effect ends early if you attack anyone other than the target or if the target is attacked by your allies.

Keeper of Secrets

Your mastery over information and secrets allows you to exert influence and control. You gain the ability to cast Modify Memory once per long rest without expending a spell slot. Additionally, whenever you successfully learn information using your Echos of the Past II ability, you gain temporary hit points equal to 5 times your Rogue level.
