Monk
Base Class: Monk

Way of the Four Elements

You follow a monastic tradition that teaches you to harness the elements. When you focus your ki, you can align yourself with the forces of creation and bend the four elements to your will, using them as an extension of your body. Some members of this tradition dedicate themselves to a single element, but others weave the elements together.

Many monks of this tradition tattoo their bodies with representations of their ki powers, commonly imagined as coiling dragons, but also as phoenixes, fish, plants, mountains, and cresting waves.

Spellcasting

  • Cantrips: The Monk learns two cantrips from the Four Elements Monk spell list at 3rd level and an additional cantrip at 10th level.
  • Spell Slots: The spell slots increase gradually, starting with 1st-level slots at 3rd level and reaching up to 4th-level slots by 20th level.
  • Spell Versatility (Variant Rule): Allows changing known spells after a long rest, adding flexibility to the Monk's spellcasting.
  • Spellcasting Ability: Uses Wisdom for spellcasting, aligning with the Monk's primary stat.
  • Enhanced Martial Arts: Allows the use of a monk weapon as a spellcasting focus.

Elemental Attunement

Elemental Attunement

You gain the ability to attune yourself to an element Earth (acid), Water (cold), Fire (fire), or Air (lightning). Your elemental attunement determines the damage of your Disciple of the Elements feature. After a long rest, you may change your attuned element.

Air

Attunement to Air:

Breathing deeply, you attune yourself to the whispers of the wind. The air around you stirs, lifting your spirit and freeing your mind. You become light and ethereal, feeling the invisible currents of the air flowing through you. Your thoughts are as swift and untethered as a breeze, bringing clarity and foresight. The boundless sky calls to your soul, granting you the freedom and agility of the wind. When you stand, you move with the grace and speed of a gusting wind, embodying its unpredictable and unstoppable force.

Earth

Attunement to Earth:

Grounding yourself, you focus inward, feeling the solid, unyielding presence of the earth beneath you. The ancient wisdom of the mountains and the resilience of the soil seep into your bones. The earth's strength fortifies your body and spirit, making you unshakable and resolute. As your meditation deepens, you become one with the rock and stone, immovable and enduring. Upon opening your eyes, a profound sense of stability and power emanates from you, like the silent might of the earth itself.

Fire

Attunement to Fire:

As you sit in deep meditation, you feel the warmth of the fire flickering within your soul. Flames dance around your fingertips, not to burn but to empower. The essence of fire, wild and untamed, courses through your veins, bringing both destruction and rebirth. Your spirit ignites with the fierce determination and unyielding will of a raging inferno. When you open your eyes, they burn with an inner light, reflecting the boundless energy of the flames that now live within you.

Water

Attunement to Water:

In the stillness of your meditation, the gentle murmur of a distant stream begins to echo in your mind. The fluidity of water merges with your thoughts, your breath matching the rhythm of the waves. Cool and tranquil, the water washes over your soul, cleansing and renewing. You feel the strength of the ocean's depths and the grace of a flowing river within your very being. When you finally rise, your movements are as fluid and graceful as the water itself, embodying its adaptability and relentless persistence.

Disciple of the Elements

Disciple of the Elements

At 3rd level, once per turn, whenever you take the attack action or cast a spell, you may choose to add two rolls of your Martial Arts die, of your attuned type, to one damage roll of that attack or spell.

At 11th level, the damage of this feature increases to three rolls of your Martial Arts die.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. While you have no uses available, you can spend 2 ki points to use this feature again.

Primal Instrument

Primal Instrument

Your increased training allows primordial energy to enhance your body as you gain the ability to use a bonus action to make a single attack with your monk weapon or an unarmed strike immediately after casting a cantrip.

Elemental Vigor

After adjusting to harnessing elemental power your body gains resistance to your currently attuned element.

Air

In your meditation, the tempest's fury and the gentle breeze alike become your allies. The currents of the air swirl around you, offering both protection and power. You feel a lightness in your step, and the crackle of electricity dances along your skin. The storms and gales no longer threaten you; instead, they invigorate and empower your spirit. The chaotic energy of the wind grants you resilience against the fiercest of storms. Henceforth, the wrath of the sky is but a whisper against your form, as you have harnessed the might of the boundless air.

Earth

As you connect with the earth, a powerful solidity infuses your being. You feel the unwavering strength of the mountains and the enduring resilience of ancient stones. Your skin takes on a faint, earthen hue, and your muscles become as tough as the hardest rock. The earth's essence shields you, absorbing impacts and grounding you in its steadfast embrace. From this moment on, the crushing force of stone and the weight of the earth hold no fear for you, as you stand firm with the indomitable spirit of the land itself.

Fire

As you deepen your attunement to the element of fire, a profound transformation occurs within you. The searing heat of the flames no longer harms you; instead, it invigorates your spirit. Your skin feels warm to the touch, and a faint glow emanates from your core. You become one with the inferno, its fiery essence woven into your very being. Flames flicker harmlessly across your body, granting you a fiery resilience. From now on, the scorching wrath of fire cannot touch you, as you have mastered its ferocious power.

Water

With each passing moment in meditation, the essence of water envelops you, flowing through your veins like a gentle stream. The biting cold of the ocean's depths and the crushing pressure of its vastness become a part of you. You feel a cool, calming presence within, protecting you from the harm of the deepest cold and the most turbulent waters. Your movements become as fluid as the tides, and your spirit as unyielding as a river’s current. Now, the chilling touch of water is but a soothing caress, for you have embraced its tranquil strength.

Heightened Connection

You gain the ability to speak, read, and write Primordial and all of its dialects (Aquan, Auran, Ignan, and Terran).

Improved Primal Instrument

Avatar of the Elements

As an ultimate display of your mastery of the elements, you can spend 5 ki as an action to have the elements of earth, fire, air, and water form a volatile sphere around your body, gaining multiple benefits for 1 minute:

  • While this ability is active, you have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, acid, cold, fire, and lightning damage.
  • You also gain a burrow, fly, and swim speed equal to your movement speed.
  • In addition, all of your attacks receive the effect of your Disciple of the Elements ability without consuming charges. In this form, you are capable of molding the elements to your will. When you enter this state or by taking a bonus action, you may choose to swap your damage type so that the extra 4d6 of elemental damage may be of any of the following types (acid, cold, fire, or lightning). The damage type reverts to your attuned element when the duration ends.
  • You may dismiss this form at any time without spending an action.
