Monk
Base Class: Monk

A Monk who follows the Way of the Spiritual Companion can align their Ki to the spirits themselves, and call upon them for aid when needed. The Spirit Realm only hosts Dark and Light Spirits, and most Monks can only call one or the other for aid in battle. Only a Monk who has mastered their Ki and has fully attuned to the Spirit Realm can call upon the both of them together. The Dark Spirits usually have frightening visages with long sharp claws and can see through illusions while The Light Spirits usually have a more regal appearance and carry blades made of light. Even though they can only exist in the material plane for a short while, their deadly presence alone can shift the way a battle is going.

Summon Spiritual Companion

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the following benefits.

As a bonus action on your turn, you summon an ethereal Spiritual Companion in a space you can see within 60 feet. When this Spiritual Companion manifests, you choose which form it takes, between a Dark Spiritual Companion or a Light Spiritual Companion.

The Spiritual Companion is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands. See its game statistics in the accompanying Spiritual Companion stat block below, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. The Spiritual Companion goes back to the Spirit Realm after the battle ends or if it is reduced to 0 hit points.

If the Spiritual Companion is ever more than 60 feet away from you, it uses its movement to teleport to an unoccupied space within 60 feet from you.

The Spiritual Companion shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn or expend a Ki point on its turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the Spiritual Companion can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

You can summon your Spiritual Companion a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
