Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Auturgy embodies a tradition of wizardry where spellcasting is self-directed and highly intuitive. This tradition diverges from conventional academic paths, fostering a unique method where spells are not just cast, but creatively manipulated and adapted to meet various challenges. Such flexibility in spell modification makes Auturgy particularly effective in unpredictable and dynamic situations.

Practitioners of this tradition, known as auturgists, are recognized for their ability to rapidly alter magical effects, making them invaluable in environments where conditions change swiftly. Their approach to magic demonstrates that the deepest understanding of arcane forces often emerges from unconventional experimentation and a willingness to explore the boundaries of magical theory. In this tradition, magic evolves constantly, driven not by textbooks, but by the practical challenges and creative insights of its practitioners.

Spell Savant

2nd Level Auturgy Feature
Starting at 2nd level when you select this subclass, your unorthodox approach to spellcasting grants you unique insights. When a creature you can see or hear casts a spell of a level for which you have spell slots available, you can use your reaction to quickly attempt to understand and replicate the spell. Make an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC of 10 + the spell's level. On a successful check, you cast the spell at the start of your next turn, adding it to your spell book and preparing it in place of another spell of the same level. On a failure the spell slot is wasted and you do not learn the spell.

Casting Multiple Spells on the Same Turn

You can’t cast more than one spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action.

Esoteric Instinct

2nd Level Auturgistic Magic Feature
At 2nd level when you choose this subclass you gain the ability to discern the magical properties of the weave at a glance. When a spell is cast that you can see within 30 feet, you immediately learn the level, and school of the spell.

At 10th level you can detect the properties of any magical effect caused by a spell within range along with its range.

Mystic Rebuke

6th Level Auturgy Feature.

When you fail a concentration check you can immediately use a reaction to cast one spell of 1st through 5th level against the triggering source of damage. The spell must have a casting time of one action and be able to target the source of damage which triggered the check. You can use this ability a number of times per long rest equal to your proficiency bonus.

Weave Shaper

10th Level Auturgy Feature

Once per short rest you can attempt to alter the target of the spell to somewhere else within its range. When you are within range of a spell being cast you can use your reaction to make contested checks using your spell casting ability modifiers. On a success, the target caster loses control of the spell and it targets a point of your choosing within the spells specified range around the original caster. On a failure the spell is cast as normal.

Arcane Entanglement

14th Level Auturgy Feature.

Beginning at 14th level you become attuned to the surrounding weave through your continued experimentation with it. When you cast a wizard spell of 1st through 5th level you can cast it as if it were one level higher, expending the spell slot as usual. The first time you do so, you suffer no adverse effect. If you use this feature again before you finish a long rest, you must make a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to 10 + the spells level. On a success, add the spells level to the difficulty class until you finish a long rest. On a failure you are no longer able to upcast spells until you finish a long rest.
