Base Class: Paladin
The Oath of the Guardian is an Oath one takes when their purpose in life is to protect someone or something. A Guardian is sworn to be the defender of something, be it a deity, a culture, a race, a clan or a person. Paladins who swear this oath dedicate themselves to serving their chosen ward in body and in spirit.
An Oath of the Guardian Paladin will rarely, if ever wield a two-handed weapon. Guardians believe that it is more beneficial to have either a shield or a second weapon in their off-hand to improve their defensive capabilities to ensure their ward stays out of harms way.
Tenets of a Guardian
- Loyalty. Your word is your bond. Without loyalty, oaths and laws are meaningless.
- Duty. Be responsible for your actions and their consequences, protect those entrusted to your care, and obey those who have just authority over you.
- Honor. Treat others with fairness, and let your honorable deeds be an example to them. Do as much good as possible while causing the least amount of harm.
- By any means necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of protecting my ward.
Channel Divinity
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.
Protect the Weak. As an action, you guard an ally with your spirit. Choose one creature in 10ft of you other than yourself. The next time they are targeted with an attack you are able to completely block it from hitting. This effect ends early if you are more than 10ft apart at the end of any of your turns, hit 0 hp, or fall unconscious.
Champion Challenge. As a bonus action, you issue a challenge that compels other creatures to do battle with you. Each creature of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, a creature can't willingly move more than 30 feet away from you. This effect ends on the creature if you are incapacitated or die or if the creature is more than 30 feet away from you.
Synchronicity
At 3rd Level, you become adept with using both hands in combat. At this level you can choose to substitute your fighting style for Two-Weapon Fighting. As such you are also able to draw or stow two one-handed weapons when you would normally be able to draw or stow only one.
