Portal monks gained their abilities by training with their masters in mystical arts.

 
 
 

Basic Portals

 

Initiates of the Way of the Portalstrider begin small. They learn to conjure portals that are large enough only for them to stick their arm or leg through. A small task for a master, but a titanic ability for those only beginning their journey on the Way of the Portalstrider.

 
 
 
 
 

Portal Range

 

This your range for utilizing most of your portal abilities. As you grow in this class your range will increase.

 
 
 
 

Dispatch Missile

 

A Monk trained in the Way of the Portalstrider can learn or be taught that rather than deflecting missiles directed at only them, they can utilize their portals to redirect missiles from anywhere in their portal range, if only they are quick enough to do so. 

When a ranged weapon attack that you can see would hit its target within your portal range, you can use your reaction to spend 2 ki points to create a portal to head off the missile. The damage the target tacks from the attack is reduced by 1d10+ your Dexterity Modifier + your monk level. 

If the portal reduces the damage to 0, the missile is fully enveloped by the portal and exits from a portal you create in the space you occupy. Make a ranged attack with the weapon or piece of ammunition you enveloped as part of the same reaction. You make this attack with proficiency, regardless of you weapon proficiencies, and the missile counds as a monk weapon for the attack. The range of the missile is the range the missile had remaining when it would have hit its target.

If the portal does not reduce the damage to 0, the missile is only partially enveloped by the portal and is snapped in two, not to be recovered.

 
 
 

Portalstride

 

Monks trained in the Way of the Portalstrider are considered only pupils until they reach this point in their learning. Only once a Portalstrider Monk shows discipline and skill necessary to make their "first stride" are they granted the rank of master. Once they know how to walk their portals themselves, they can also hold a portal open for others to use.

Using your action, select one creature you can see within your portal range. You create a portal for that creature to move through to any other spot that you can see withing your portal range. Only the creature you choose may enter the portal, if it so desires. Moving through the portal while in the reach of another creature is considered leaving that creatures reach, and can provoke an attack of opportunity.

If you use this ability on yourself, the range for the other portal is extended to 500ft, but you must still be able to see the point that you will be exiting your portal. You can also take one willing creature with you when you traverse the portal. After using this ability you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

 

 

 
 

Route Divergence

 

It is said that Portalstriding Grandmasters can conjure portals so fast that a moving creature will not notice the rift until they are already on the other side. 

When a creature that is Large of smaller takes its movement, you can use your reaction to spend 4 ki points to open a portal on its path, as long as the creature creature's path enters your portal range. The creature must make a dexterity saving throw against your Ki save DC or fall through the portal to any spot you can see within your portal range.
