Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

Eldritch Gunsmiths are artificers who have delved into the unfathomable realms of the Eldrazi, ancient beings of cosmic horror and power. By infusing their mechanical creations with the chaotic and destructive energies of the void, these artificers become formidable warriors, wielding weapons that can warp reality and annihilate their enemies. They craft eldritch cannons that spew necrotic energy and devastate the battlefield, blending their technological prowess with the dark powers of the Eldrazi.

Eldritch Gunsmiths are often solitary figures, drawn to places where the veil between worlds is thin. They seek out knowledge and relics of the Eldrazi, using their understanding of these ancient beings to protect the world from extraplanar threats. Yet, they walk a fine line, as every creation, every spell, brings them closer to the void, threatening to consume their very essence. They are both revered and feared, their presence a reminder of the thin veil that separates the known world from the cosmic horrors that lie beyond.

Eldritch Gunsmith Spells

3rd-level Eldritch Gunsmith feature

Cosmic Cannon

3rd-level Eldritch Gunsmith feature

Starting at 3rd level, you learn how to create a Cosmic Cannon, a device of dark, otherworldly power. Using smith’s tools or woodcarver’s tools, you can take an action to magically create a Small or Tiny Cosmic Cannon in an unoccupied space on a horizontal surface within 5 feet of you.

When you create the cannon, you determine its appearance and whether it has legs. You also decide which type it is, choosing from the options on the Cosmic Cannon table. On each of your turns, you can take a bonus action to cause the cannon to activate if you are within 60 feet of it. As part of the same bonus action, you can direct the cannon to walk or climb up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space, provided it has legs.

You can create a number of Cosmic Cannons equal to your proficiency bonus, and you can’t create one while at your maximum number. You can create a new one after you finish a long rest or by expending a spell slot of 1st level or higher. If you create a new cannon, the previous one becomes inactive.

Cosmic Cannons

Cannon Activation

Necrotic Goo

The cannon spews forth a jet of necrotic energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking necrotic damage equal to 2d8 + your Intelligence modifier on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The necrotic energy corrodes and destroys organic matter, leaving a trail of decay.

Necrotic Projectile

Make a ranged spell attack originating from the cannon at one creature or object within 120 feet. On a hit, the target takes 2d10 necrotic damage and is pushed 5 feet away from the cannon. The projectile is a concentrated bolt of eldritch energy that disintegrates anything in its path.

Necrotic Burst

The cannon emits a burst of necrotic energy in a 10-foot radius around it, which restores 1d8 + your Intelligence modifier hit points to each creature of your choice in that area. This energy siphons life from the void, rejuvenating allies and leaving an eerie afterglow.

Eldritch Firearm

5th-level Eldritch Gunsmith feature

At 5th level, you gain the ability to imbue a firearm with the power of the void. As an action, you can touch a wand, staff, or rod and transform it into your Eldritch Firearm. You can use your Eldritch Firearm as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells. When you cast an artificer spell through the Eldritch Firearm, you gain a bonus to one of the spell’s damage rolls equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

Additionally, when you cast an artificer spell using the Eldritch Firearm, you can reroll one of the damage dice and use either result.

Void Cannon

9th-level Eldritch Gunsmith feature

Starting at 9th level, your Eldritch Cannons become more destructive. Once per turn, when you activate your Eldritch Cannon, you can cause it to unleash a void explosion. When you do so, the cannon detonates in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on it. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 4d10 force damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The explosion leaves behind a void-scarred area, distorting reality.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest or until you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher to use it again.

Cosmic Fortification

15th-level Eldritch Gunsmith feature

By 15th level, you have learned to draw upon the infinite energies of the void to fortify your defenses and those of your allies. When you or any friendly creature within 30 feet of you is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, you can use your reaction to grant it advantage on the saving throw. Additionally, when a creature gains this benefit, it takes no damage on a successful save and half damage on a failed save.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
