Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Dancing Fist have a tendency towards being extroverted and adventurous in comparison to most other orders. Rather than keeping their ways hidden and reserved until they are needed, these monks commonly embed themselves in travelling troupes of performers as they wander the world on their own spiritual journeys.
Way of the Dancing Fist Features:
3rd: Bonus Proficiencies; Rhythmic Strike
6th: Improved Rhythmic Strike; Artful Dodge
11th: Improved Artful Dodge; Intimidating Display
17th: Unleash the Dancing Fist
Bonus Proficiencies
When you take this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Performance skill (or double your proficiency if you already have it). You also gain proficiency in a musical instrument of your choice.
Rhythmic Strike
At 3rd level, your martial arts are augmented by the artistic flair of the Dancing Fist. On a successful Unarmed Strike, you can spend a Ki point to roll a DC 13 Performance check. If you succeed, you can choose one of the following Rhythmic Flourishes to add to your strike.
Bamboozle: The target of your strike is confused by your beguiling movement, and has Disadvantage on their next attack against you.
Disarm: You force the target to drop one item of your choosing, which then lands at their feet.
Leapfrog: You use your target as a springboard to make a 15ft jump as a Free Action. Leaving your target’s melee range in this way will not provoke opportunity attacks.
Take on All-Comers: If you have more than 1 target within your melee range, you can take an additional strike against a second target as a Free Action.
Whirl Away: If an ally is within 15ft of your target, you can push your target into melee range of your ally. Leaving your target’s melee range will not provoke opportunity attacks.
Improved Rhythmic Strike
Starting at 6th level, you gain the option when using your Rhythmic Strike ability to spend an additional Ki point to lower the DC of your Performance check by 2, or an additional 2 Ki points to make your Rhythmic Flourish an automatic success.
Artful Dodge
At 6th level, when you use your Deflect Missiles, Patient Defense or Step of the Wind ability, you have the option to spend a Ki point to roll a DC 13 Performance check. If you succeed, then the poise and finesse of your action is a delight to behold for your allies. Any ally who can see you gains a Bardic Inspiration die for their next turn. Artful Dodge can also be applied to your Evasion ability from level 7.
Improved Artful Dodge
Starting at 11th level, when using your Artful Dodge ability, you have the option to spend an additional Ki point to lower the DC of your Performance check by 2, or to spend 2 additional Ki points to make your Artful Dodge an automatic success.
Intimidating Display
At 11th Level, at the start of your turn you can spend 3 Ki points as a Bonus Action to strike a threatening pose in order to incite fear in your opponents. Any enemy that can see you in this moment must make a Wisdom saving throw higher than your Ki Save DC, or else be Frightened or Charmed by you (according to your preference) until the end of your next turn.
Unleash the Dancing Fist
At 17th level, you unlock the final form of the Dancing Fist, an expression of power furious and elegant in equal manner. Using an Action on your turn, you can spend 5 Ki points to perform a dance that both emboldens your allies and withers your foes.
Any ally who can see you gains 2 d10 temporary hit points, and gains advantage on Charisma and Wisdom saving throws for 1 minute. Any enemy who can see you takes 2 d10 Psychic damage unless they succeed in a Wisdom saving throw higher than your Ki Save DC for half damage. For the next minute, any critical hit against an enemy deals an additional 3 d10 Psychic damage.
