Druid
Base Class: Druid

In a universe teeming with unknown and alien ecosystems, some druids have formed a unique bond with the extraterrestrial and the bizarre. These druids, known as members of the Circle of the Mutant, have undergone profound mutations due to their exposure to alien nature. They harness the power of their mutations to protect the balance of life across the cosmos.

These druids possess the ability to communicate with and transform into alien creatures, their forms reflecting the strange and wondrous adaptations of life beyond Earth. Their bodies have been altered to endure harsh environments, heal rapidly, and adapt to new threats with ease.

As a member of the Circle of the Mutant, you are a guardian of alien ecosystems, a bridge between the known and the unknown, and a testament to the endless adaptability of life. Your powers are a fusion of druidic tradition and the strange, ever-changing nature of alien life, making you a unique and powerful force in the galaxy.

Playing a druid of the Circle of the Mutant in a sci-fi setting offers exciting roleplaying opportunities. Here are four tips to help you bring your character to life:

1. Embrace the Alien Nature

Your character's mutation by alien forces should manifest in both physical appearance and behavior. Embrace the quirks and mutations your character possesses, whether it's glowing eyes, strange appendages, or bioluminescent markings. Let these traits influence how your character interacts with others and the environment, showcasing their unique connection to alien ecosystems.

2. Communicate with Alien Beings

Take advantage of your ability to speak with alien flora and fauna. Roleplay interactions with strange and exotic creatures, using your ability to understand their motivations and needs. This can create opportunities for diplomacy, information gathering, or even forging alliances with beings that others might find incomprehensible or hostile.

3. Adaptability and Survival Instincts

Highlight your character's adaptability to different environments and threats. Showcase their ability to quickly change forms to suit the situation, whether it's blending into a forest of crystalline trees or swimming through acidic oceans. Use your mutations strategically, emphasizing your character's survival instincts and the practical benefits of their alien enhancements.

4. Struggle with Identity

Explore the theme of identity and belonging. Your character's mutations may have distanced them from conventional society or even other druids. Roleplay moments where your character grapples with their altered appearance and abilities, questioning their place in the natural order or among other beings. This internal conflict can add depth to your character's journey as they seek to reconcile their humanity with their alien-infused nature.

By incorporating these roleplaying tips, you can create a compelling and nuanced character for your Circle of the Mutant druid, exploring themes of alienation, adaptation, and the mysteries of the cosmos in your sci-fi campaign.

Shapeshifter’s Mutation

Your bond with alien nature has mutated your shapeshifting abilities. You can use Wild Shape as a bonus action, and you can transform into more bizarre and powerful creatures. When you use Wild Shape, you can choose to take on the form of an alien beast with the following additional benefits:

  • Alien Resilience: While transformed, you gain temporary hit points equal to twice your druid level.
  • Mutated Form: You can transform into creatures with a challenge rating as high as 1 (you ignore the Max. CR column of the Beast Shapes table).

Starting at 6th level, you can transform into a beast with a challenge rating as high as your druid level divided by 3, rounded down.

Extraterrestrial Communication

Your mutation grants you the ability to communicate with alien flora and fauna. You gain the ability to cast Speak with Plants and Speak with Animals at will, but only to communicate with alien or mutated creatures. Additionally, you can understand and be understood by any creature that has been mutated by alien nature.

Mutagenic Adaptation

Your alien mutation allows you to adapt quickly to various threats. When you use Wild Shape, choose one of the following adaptations, which lasts for the duration of your transformation:

  • Venomous Spines: When a creature hits you with a melee attack, it takes poison damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
  • Bioluminescence: You shed bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. You can use a bonus action to blind a creature within 10 feet of you until the end of your next turn.
  • Chitinous Armor: You gain a +2 bonus to AC.
