Base Class: Monk
In a remote corner of the galaxy, orbiting a white dwarf star, lies a high-gravity planet where only the most dedicated and resilient monks train. These warriors, followers of the Way of the Heavy Foot, have adapted to the planet's crushing gravitational forces, achieving feats of strength, agility, and speed that defy conventional understanding.
Monks of the Way of the Heavy Foot are renowned for their ability to move with incredible speed, seemingly bending the flow of time itself. Their training in high-gravity environments has also honed their bodies into living weapons, capable of delivering strikes with unparalleled force and precision.
These monks carry the lessons of their harsh training into the wider universe, using their gravitational mastery to protect the innocent, defeat the wicked, and explore the mysteries of the cosmos. As a practitioner of the Way of the Heavy Foot, you embody the strength and resilience forged in the crucible of high-gravity training, moving with the swiftness of thought and striking with the power of a collapsing star.
Roleplaying Tips for the Way of the Heavy Foot
-
Exude Physical Mastery: Your character has trained under extreme conditions, giving them an aura of supreme physical control and confidence. Show this mastery through effortless athletic feats and a calm demeanor in the face of physical challenges.
-
Highlight Your Training's Origin: Frequently reference your home planet and the unique training it provided. Use stories of your experiences to illustrate your abilities and give context to your extraordinary skills.
-
Embrace the Gravity Theme: Incorporate the theme of gravity into your roleplaying. Describe how you feel heavier in low-gravity environments or how you instinctively adjust your movements to account for different gravitational pulls.
-
Play Up the Bullet Time: When using your Bullet Time feature, describe the world slowing down around you, highlighting your heightened awareness and rapid reactions. This can add a cinematic feel to your actions and emphasize your extraordinary abilities.
Gravitational Bullet Time
3rd-level Way of the Heavy Foot feature
Your intense training on a high-gravity planet has conditioned your body to withstand immense pressure and perform incredible feats of agility. You gain proficiency in Athletics and Acrobatics if you don't already have it. Your jump distance is tripled, and you have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws against effects that would knock you prone.
Additionally, your mastery of movement allows you to perceive and react to the world at incredible speeds. When you use Patient Defense or Step of the Wind, you enter a state of heightened awareness until the start of your next turn. While in this state, you can take two reactions per round instead of one, and you have advantage on all Dexterity checks and saving throws.
Gravitational Impact
6th-level Way of the Heavy Foot feature
You can harness the high gravity training to deliver devastating blows. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can impose one of the following effects on it:
- Gravitational Crush: The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained until the end of your next turn.
- Gravitational Pull: The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be pulled up to 10 feet toward you and fall prone.
- Gravitational Push: The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be pushed up to 15 feet away from you and take additional bludgeoning damage equal to your Martial Arts die.
Kinetic Redirection
11th-level Way of the Heavy Foot feature
You have learned to redirect the kinetic energy of incoming attacks. When a creature hits you with a ranged attack, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can spend 1 ki point to redirect the projectile back at the attacker, making a ranged attack with proficiency, regardless of the projectile's nature.
Gravitational Mastery
17th-level Way of the Heavy Foot feature
Your control over gravity has reached its peak, allowing you to manipulate the gravitational field around you. As an action, you can create a 30-foot-radius sphere of altered gravity centered on yourself for 1 minute. During this time, you gain the following benefits:
- You can move across vertical surfaces and ceilings without falling.
- You can designate any number of creatures you can see within the area to be affected by the gravitational field. Affected creatures must make a Strength saving throw at the start of each of their turns. On a failed save, their speed is halved, and they have disadvantage on attack rolls and Dexterity saving throws until the start of their next turn.
- You can use your action to focus the gravitational field on a single creature within the area, forcing it to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is restrained and takes bludgeoning damage equal to 3 rolls of your Martial Arts die. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not restrained.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
