Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Similar to an Oathbreaker, a paladin who takes an Oath of the Faithless is one who feels they have been wronged by the god they have given their previous oath to and who's heart has fallen to the depths of sorrow and anguish. The light that had previous burned bright has dimmed with the belief that their god has forsaken them.

A paladin must be at least 3rd level to fall to the Oath of the Faithless. The paladin replaces the features specific to his or her Sacred Oath with Oath of the Faithless features.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Vow of Despair. As a bonus action, you can utter a vow of despair against a creature you can see within 10 feet of you, using your Channel Divinity. The creature gains disadvantage against all melee attacks against it for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious.

Forlorn Aspect. As an action, the paladin channels their emotions of misery and focuses them into a burst of magical menace. Each creature of the paladin’s choice within 30 feet of the paladin must make a Wisdom saving throw if it can see the paladin. On a failed save, the target is incapacitated for 1 minute. At the end of the creatures turn it can attempt another Wisdom saving throw to end the effect on it.

Oath Spells

A Paladin of the Faithless loses previously gained oath spells and instead gains the following spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of the Faithless Spells
Paladin Level Spells

3rd

hellish rebuke, inflict wounds

5th

hold person, misty step

9th

animate dead, protection from energy

13th

banishment, confusion

17th

contagion, dominate person

Wretched Adversary

By 7th level, your obsessive thirst for retribution helps you close off a foe’s retreat. When you successfully hit a creature with an opportunity attack, you gain advantage on attack rolls against the creature for 1 minute or until it drops to 0 hit points or falls unconscious.

Aura of Anguish

Starting at 15th level, the misery that fuels your Vow of Despair can now effect the minds of your foes. When a creature under the effect of your Vow of Despair makes an attack, you can use your reaction to direct your energy to envelope them in an aura of anguish wracking it with unbearable pain and sorrow. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 psychic damage. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage.

Forsaken Soul

At 20th level, the paladin can, as an action, surround themselves with a 30-ft. aura of gloom and doom for 1 minute, reducing any bright light in the aura to dim light. Whenever an enemy enters the aura, it takes 2d10 psychic damage and 4d6 cold damage, continuing at the start of each turn until it leaves the aura.

Any foes that end their turn in the depressive aura must make a wisdom saving throw or gain a sense of despondency, giving them disadvantage on their next attack roll, even if they leave the aura before the start of their attack.

After activating the aura, the paladin can’t do so again until he or she finishes a long rest.
