Base Class: Monk
Monks that study the way of flowing water learn how to redirect their enemies' attacks through unarmed combat and wear down their strength instead of striking with brute force. Their constant meditation and knowledge of ki allows them to hone their awareness and reflexes to almost supernatural levels. These monks are pacifists at heart, aiming to exert complete control over their own bodies and their enemies, rather than simply kill and destroy.
Flowing movement
Beginning at 3rd level you learn to harness your ki to redirect your enemy's attacks and to move in ways that seem to defy physical laws. As a reaction, you can spend 1 ki point to make one of the following reactions:
- During combat, if an opponent who is your size or one size larger moves to a space adjacent to you and is going to make a melee attack, you can make a reaction between their movement and attack and the opponent must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they are knocked prone and you move through their space to another space adjacent to them. On a successful save you can still move 5 feet to a space adjacent to them, but not through their space, and they do not fall prone. You can only do this if you are not incapacitated before taking the reaction.
- When an opponent misses with a melee attack against you, you can use this reaction to make an unarmed strike.
- If there is an ally within 5 feet of you, you can take the Help action as a reaction just before they are about to make an attack or dexterity saving throw.
If you have already used your reaction, you can spend an additional ki point to take an additional reactions with this skill before your next turn. After making, say, an opportunity attack, you could use this skill for 2 ki points.
At level 11 you can use this skill to make a third reaction as well, for an additional 3 ki points.
Crushing current
Upon reaching 6th level, you learn how to exploit various vital pressure points which act as nodes of ki flowing through the body. By tapping into these sites with precise movements, you are able to extract ki from them, sapping the strength of your foes. After hitting an opponent with an unarmed strike on your turn you can make a pressure point attack instead of rolling for damage. Each pressure point attack imposes a point of exhaustion (up to 3 max). These points follow the normal rules for exhaustion and these strikes cannot be also used to attempt stunning strikes.
Water's clarity
At 11th level, you gain mastery over yourself and are more attuned to your environment. You gain proficiency in the Perception skill if you don't already have it, and a +4 to initiative.
Furious torrent
At 17th level, you learn to focus your ki into a supremely powerful burst of energy. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike on your turn you can spend 5 ki points to unleash a furious strike of ki energy. Your opponent must make a constitution saving throw: on a failed save they are paralyzed for up to 8 hours, take 6d6 force damage, and you recover hitpoints equal to the force damage die rolled (not including other modifiers). On a successful save they are not paralyzed, but still take full force damage.
