Base Class: Monk
Many monastic traditions are described as striking like lightning, but only one does so in the literal sense. The Way of the Storm focuses on fast, sharp attacks that emulate the raw power of the storm.
Storm Fist Technique
At 3rd level, you are taught the Storm Fist technique, a means to channel electrical energy through the power of Ki. Whenever you use your Flurry of Blows, you may add an additional roll of your Martial Arts Die to one of the attacks' damage rolls as lightning damage.
Additionally, you can spend 1 Ki point to force another creature within 10 feet of the target to make a Dexterity saving throw against your Ki save DC or take an equal amount of lightning damage.
Static Sense
Starting at 3rd level, a monk following the Way of the Storm can feel the charge of electricity flowing through the world, however minute. As an action, you can send out a pulse of static in a 30 foot radius sphere around you. When you do, you become aware of all creatures and objects within the area of the pulse, even if they are hidden by magical means.
When you detect a creature or object this way, you may spend 1 Ki point to cause the static energy to cling to the target for 1 minute. For the duration, the creature or object sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius and cannot become hidden by magical means, such as being invisible.
Ride The Lightning
Among the many monastic traditions, the Way of the Storm is among the most fleet of foot. At 6th level, when you use your Step of the Wind feature, you may spend an additional 1 Ki point to become a living bolt of lightning until the end of your next turn. For the duration, you gain the following:
- An additional 15 feet of movement speed.
- Once per turn, when a creature comes within 5 feet of you, you deal lightning damage to it equal to a roll of your Martial Arts Die.
- Your movement from one point to another is instantaneous, and you do not provoke opportunity attacks moving this way.
Palm of Thunder
At 11th level, you learn a new powerful technique -- The Palm of Thunder. You are now able to pool your Ki to channel a great volume of electrical energy from the world around you, and throw your strikes as blasts of lightning.
As a bonus action, you may spend 3 Ki points to charge yourself with electricity for 1 minute. Your unarmed and monk weapon melee attacks now have a range of 30 feet for the duration, and these attacks deal additional lightning damage equal to your Martial Arts die.
Storm's Fury
At 17th level, you have learned to connect the Ki of all living things with the hum of energy from a storm. Whenever you deal lightning damage to a creature, you may have that lightning damage spark off to another creature of your choice within 15 feet of the original. Each successive spark must 'chain' to a new target and cannot loop back over to a target that is already part of the 'chain'.
Whenever you deal lightning damage to a creature, that creature has disadvantage on their saving throw against your Stunning Strike feature until the end of your turn.
