Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who follow the Way of the Hin Fist have honed their bodies and minds to be as formidable as the most towering of giants, despite their small stature. They harness their inner strength to compensate for their lack of physical size, mastering techniques that leverage their agility, cunning, and resilience.

Flavor and Background

Monks of the Way of the Hin Fist are often seen as the ultimate defenders of their communities. They train in secluded monasteries, focusing on enhancing their agility and toughness. Their martial arts style includes techniques that exploit their small size to their advantage, making them a surprising threat to any foe, no matter how large.

These monks are revered in halfling, gnome, and dwarven societies as paragons of their kind, embodying the spirit and resilience of their people. The "Hin" in Hin Fist is derived from the halfling word for themselves, but the tradition is inclusive of all small folk who seek to harness their inner strength to overcome physical limitations.

Nimble Combatant

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your training allows you to move with extraordinary agility. You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours. Additionally, you can use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier for Athletics checks.

Hin Resilience

Your inner fortitude allows you to withstand the most brutal of assaults. When you use your Patient Defense feature, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier + your monk level.

Giant Slayer

Starting at 6th level, you have learned to strike with precision against larger foes. When you hit a creature larger than you with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, you can roll one of the weapon’s damage dice an additional time and add it as extra damage of the weapon’s type.

Evasion and Escape

Your training has made you exceptionally good at avoiding harm and escaping from dangerous situations. You can add your Wisdom modifier to your Dexterity saving throws. Additionally, you can use your reaction to reroll a failed Dexterity saving throw. You must use the new roll, and you can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Inner Giant

At 17th level, you can draw upon your inner strength to grow in power and presence. As an action, you can magically increase your size, becoming Large for 1 minute. While enlarged in this way, you gain the following benefits:

  • Your reach increases by 5 feet.
  • Your unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d8 damage.
  • You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
