Rogue
Base Class: Rogue

The Gambler is a rogue who lives by the thrill of chance, risk, and reward. Masters of deceit and intuition, Gamblers thrive in high-stakes situations, leveraging their luck and charisma to turn the odds in their favor. This subclass is for those who enjoy taking calculated risks to gain substantial benefits, both in and out of combat.

Sharp Insight

(lvl 3) Whenever you make a Insight check to determine whether a creature is lying, treat a roll of 7 or lower on the d20 as an 8.

Gambler's Proficiency

(lvl 3) You gain proficiency with two gaming sets of your choice. You also learn two languages of your choice.

Gambler's Gambit

Gambler's Attack (lvl 3): Your flair for risk-taking extends to combat. When you make an attack, you can use a bonus action to make a Charisma saving throw. Depending on your roll, you either face disadvantage or turn the tide in your favor:

  • DC 13 or below: The risk backfires, and you have disadvantage on the attack.
  • DC 14 to 18: Your calculated gamble pays off, allowing you to use your Sneak Attack against the target even if you don’t have advantage on the attack roll (though not if you have disadvantage).
  • DC 19 or higher: Luck is on your side, granting you advantage on the attack.

Risky Wager

Damage Dice Gamble (lvl 9): Your boldness knows no bounds. When you attack, you can use a bonus action to choose any number of d4s. You then make a Charisma saving throw with a DC equal to 11 + the number of chosen dice. On a success, you add the rolled dice to your attack’s damage, dealing devastating blows. On a failure, you suffer psychic damage equal to the sum of the chosen dice, reflecting the mental strain of your failed gamble.

Defensive Bluff

Evasive Gamble (lvl 13): Your knack for deception extends to defense. When you are hit by an attack, you can use your reaction to make a Charisma saving throw against a DC 16. On a success, you only take half damage from the attack, showcasing your quick thinking and evasive maneuvers. On a failure, your bluff is called, and the attacker gains a free attack against you, putting you in a precarious situation.

Last Chance

Cheat Death (lvl 17): Your luck and tenacity are legendary. Once per short rest, when you would fall to 0 hit points, you can make a DC 13 Charisma saving throw. On a success, you miraculously survive with 1 hit point, refusing to go down easily. On a failure, the gamble proves too costly, and you gain two death saving throw failures, bringing you dangerously close to the brink of death.
