Base Class: Wizard
Battle Mages are masters of the blade and spell. Their martial training and prowess allows them to hold the front line in battle while their spell slinging gives them the ability to enhance their physical combat. A battle mage is a wizard who loves the study of magic but also has adopted the more physical training that a fighter takes on.
At a battle mages’ peak combat ability they are able to combine the full casting of spells along with the swing of a blade.
War Training
When you choose this arcane tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with simple weapons and with light armor, as well as two martial melee weapons of your choice. Additionally, your hit point maximum increases by 4, and it increases by 2 again each time you gain a level in this class. You are able to use a weapon you are proficient in as a spell casting focus for your Wizard spells.
Tactical Wit
Additionally at 2nd level, your keen ability to assess tactical situations allows you to act quickly in battle You can give yourself a bonus to your initiative rolls equal to your Intelligence modifier. You also gain proficiency in Athletics.
Magical Defense
Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to instill you're armor with magic to protect yourself. While wearing magical armor you may choose to add your intelligence bonus to your AC rather than your dexterity bonus. (Note you will have to manually cancel out any dex bonus you get to your AC when using this feature)
Cunning Tactics
Additionally at 6th level, your martial capabilities have started to align with your magic. And you have become adept at analyzing your foes in moments of weakness. When you make a melee attack on your turn you may make an additional melee attack or an attack with a cantrip as part of the same attack action. Also whenever you score a critical hit with a weapon attack, or cantrip, you may make an additional attack as part of that attack action. This does not function off of a critical hit on a spell attack from a leveled spell.
Increased Martial Training
At 10th level, your training has paid off. You are now proficient in medium armor, as well as an additional two martial weapons of your choice.
Insightful Fighting
At 10th level, you have trained to assess your foes moves in combat. As a bonus action you can magically enhance your fighting, for 1 minute you score a critical hit on a 19 or 20. You can use this ability intelligence modifier times per long rest.
Magical Intuition
At 14th level, your intuition has become unparalleled. When you use your insightful fighting you now crit on an 18-20. In addition you now add your Intelligence modifier to your attack and damage rolls with melee weapons.
Spell Mastery
Additionally at 14th level, whenever you cast a spell you may make a single weapon attack as part of that same action.
