Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards of the College of Festivity are the life of the party, bringing electrifying energy and rhythm to any gathering. In a universe filled with monotony and order, these bards thrive in chaos, drawing inspiration from the pulsating beats of techno and EDM. With an attitude that defies conventions and a knack for sampling sounds from their surroundings, they turn every encounter into a festival of sound and rebellion.

Roleplaying the Festivity Bard

  • Punk Rock Ethos: As a bard of the College of Festivity, you embody a rebellious spirit. You challenge societal norms and fight against oppression through your music and actions, using sound as a catalyst for change.

  • Life of the Party: You are the heart of any gathering, bringing people together through your infectious energy. Whether it’s a small crew or a bustling spaceport, you find ways to turn every moment into a celebration.

  • Musical Innovator: You are constantly seeking new sounds and rhythms, drawing inspiration from the most unlikely sources. Your performances are an ever-evolving tapestry of audio artistry, reflecting the dynamic nature of the universe.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Lore at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with three skills of your choice.

Sonic Mix

At 3rd level, your ability to sample and mix sounds gives you a unique edge in combat and performance.

Features:

  • Sampled Sounds: You can record up to three different sounds or pieces of music, each lasting up to 1 minute, using a device known as a Soundcatcher. You can mix these samples into your performances, enhancing their effects. When you use Bardic Inspiration, you can expend one sample to increase the die size by one step (e.g., from a d6 to a d8).

  • Rhythmic Performance: You can use your music to infuse allies with energy. As a bonus action, you can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to give an ally within 60 feet advantage on their next attack roll or ability check before your next turn. The pounding beats of your performance inspire them to push beyond their limits.

Flavor:

Your performances are a whirlwind of sound and emotion. You seamlessly blend samples from the world around you into your music, creating a unique and immersive experience. Whether on a bustling space station or a desolate asteroid, your sounds echo with a vibrancy that defies the cold emptiness of space.

Electric Pulse

At 6th level, you harness the raw power of sound to disrupt and disorient your enemies.

Features:

  • Disruptive Beat: As an action, you can unleash a powerful sonic wave from your Soundcatcher. Choose up to three creatures within 60 feet; they must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or be stunned until the start of your next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

  • Sonic Shield: You can create a protective barrier of sound around yourself or an ally within 30 feet. As a reaction when the chosen creature is hit by an attack, you can impose disadvantage on the attack roll as the sound distorts the attacker’s aim. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once) per long rest.

Flavor:

You command the power of sound waves with unparalleled skill, turning your performances into a weapon against your foes. The pulsing energy of your beats can send shockwaves through the battlefield, creating chaos and confusion among your enemies. Your music is a force of nature, unpredictable and relentless.

Rave Revolution

At 14th level, your mastery of sound reaches its peak, allowing you to lead entire groups in a harmonious frenzy.

Features:

  • Festival of Sound: You can create a 60-foot radius sphere centered on yourself that transforms the area into a pulsating rave. For 1 minute, all creatures of your choice within this area gain the following benefits:

    • Adrenaline Surge: Advantage on Dexterity saving throws.
    • Harmony of Chaos: When an ally hits with an attack, they deal an additional 1d8 thunder damage.
    • Unity of Beats: Allies can communicate telepathically with each other while within the area, sharing tactics and strategies instantly.

You can use this feature once per long rest. When you activate this ability, your music reaches a crescendo, and the boundaries between ally and environment dissolve in the shared rhythm.

  • Encore Performance: Once per short rest, when you finish a performance, you can immediately use another bard ability that requires a performance or Bardic Inspiration as a bonus action.

Flavor:

Your music transcends mere sound, becoming an experience that binds everyone together. You create a space where music and battle become one, and your allies are invigorated by the harmony and power of the shared beat. You lead your comrades in a dance of defiance and victory, proving that nothing can stand against the spirit of festivity.
