Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of Adaptability are unparalleled in their ability to observe and assimilate the skills and powers of their opponents. These monks are masters of flexibility, able to shift their tactics and techniques in the heat of battle to exploit their enemies' strengths and weaknesses. Through intense training and meditation, they have honed their minds and bodies to rapidly adapt to any situation, making them formidable and unpredictable foes.
Adaptive Mimicry
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain the ability to observe and mimic the abilities of your opponents. As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to target one creature you can see within 60 feet. You gain proficiency in one skill, saving throw, or tool that the target is proficient in until the end of the encounter. Additionally, you can use one of the target’s known actions or traits (such as a special attack or movement ability) for the duration of the encounter. You can only mimic one creature at a time and can only mimic abilities that do not require spell slots.
Spell Mimicry
At 6th level, your ability to mimic has extended to spells. As a bonus action, you can spend 3 ki points to target one creature you can see within 60 feet. You can choose one spell or cantrip the target knows and cast it as if you were a spellcaster of the same level. This effect lasts until the end of the encounter, and you must use your Wisdom as the spellcasting ability. You can only mimic one spell or cantrip at a time and cannot mimic spells higher than 3rd level.
Combat Flexibility
Starting at 11th level, your adaptability in combat becomes even more refined. As a reaction, when you are hit by an attack, you can spend 4 ki points to gain one of the following benefits until the end of your next turn:
- Gain resistance to the damage type of the attack.
- Gain the ability to use one of the attacker’s features that is not a spell or cantrip (such as a multiattack or special ability).
- Gain the ability to speak, read, and understand one language the attacker knows.
- Gain proficiency any weapons the attacker is wielding.
Master of Adaptation
At 17th level, your mastery of adaptability allows you to maintain mimicked abilities longer and more effectively. When you use Adaptive Mimicry or Spell Mimicry, the effect now lasts for 1 hour or until you use this feature again. Additionally, you can now mimic two different creatures simultaneously. When mimicking spells, you can now mimic spells up to 5th level. If a mimicked spell requires material components, you can use ki points equal to the spell level to cast it without those components.
