Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

The Gravebound Knight is a warrior who has transcended death, driven by an unyielding purpose that anchors their soul to the mortal realm. Whether by a vow unfulfilled, a betrayal unanswered, or a loved one lost, these knights refuse the peace of the grave, bound instead to their duty, their vengeance, or their sorrow. The forces of death have marked them, but rather than claiming them, they have empowered these knights with dark gifts.

A Gravebound Knight is a relentless force on the battlefield, a figure of fear and respect, their mere presence a reminder of the thin line between life and death. Their flesh may be cold, their heart still, but their spirit burns with the fury of the grave. Through sheer will and the dark powers that now course through their veins, they fight on, undeterred by wounds that would fell lesser warriors.

Those who face a Gravebound Knight should beware, for these warriors do not fight for gold, honor, or glory—they fight for something far deeper, far more personal. And until their purpose is fulfilled, nothing in this world or the next can stop them.

Deathless Resolve

Upon choosing this archetype at 3rd level, your will to live becomes ironclad, granting you the following benefits:

  • Undying Fortitude: When you are reduced to 0 hit points from damage but not killed outright, you can make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 10 + the damage taken. On a success, you drop to 1 hit point instead. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain all uses after a long rest.
  • Vengeful Assault: When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can mark them for vengeance. The next time you hit the marked creature with a weapon attack before the end of your next turn, you deal an extra 1d6 necrotic damage. The damage increases to 2d6 at 10th level.

Tombwalker

Beginning at 7th level, your revenance grants you the following features:

  • Unholy Resilience: Your connection to undeath grants you resistance to necrotic damage and advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
  • Relentless Pursuit: Your deathly focus allows you to track creatures you have sworn vengeance against unerringly. When you hit a creature marked by your Vengeful Assault feature, you can choose to use this feature on it, allowing you to know its exact location for the next 8 hours, as long as it is on the same plane of existence as you and you maintain concentration on this feature (as if concentrating on a spell). This effect ends early if you use this feature on another target. A creature under this effect gains no benefit from being invisible against you. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain expended uses at the end of a short or long rest.

Hallowed Rebirth

Starting at 10th level, you can temporarily transcend death to fulfill your purpose. When you fall unconscious or die, you can choose to rise again at the start of your next turn with hit points equal to your fighter level. Once you do so, you cannot use this trait again until you finish a long rest. Additionally, when you rise in this way, all creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be frightened of you until the end of their next turn.

Revenant's Wrath

At 15th level, your fury in battle manifests as a deadly aura:

  • Aura of Vengeance: As a bonus action, you can emanate a 10-foot aura of necrotic energy that lasts for 1 minute or until you loose concentration on it (as if concentrating on a spell). Hostile creatures that end their turn in the aura take necrotic damage equal to your Constitution Modifier (minimum of 1). Additionally, once per round when you take damage while this aura is active, you can use your reaction to make a weapon attack against a creature within range. You can use this Aura once, and regain the ability to do so at the end of a short or long rest.

Pact of Death

At 18th level, your bond with death grants you unparalleled resilience and power. You gain immunity to necrotic damage and the frightened condition, and your hit point maximum cannot be reduced through disease or magic. Additionally, once per turn when you use deal the necrotic damage of Vengeful Assault against a creature you already have marked with Relentless Pursuit, you can choose to deal an additional 1d6 necrotic damage (3d6 necrotic damage total), at the cost of reducing the maximum duration of your Relentless Pursuit on that target by 1 hour.
