Alternatively, the spell can be cast pre-emptively on any gem in a sword, such as a ruby or sapphire. The gem stores the spell for the next attack made with the weapon and activates automatically when a target takes damage. Additionally, the user gains 1 INT or WIS score.

[Mastery] Counter Absorption
The user can use a reaction to attempt to hit an incoming spell with their weapon. If the spell is hit, the spell is absorbed into an open gem and becomes available for use on your next successful strike. If the user fails to hit the spell, the spell directly hits the user, becoming the center of any AOE. The user can move to counter it if the spell is within their movement range, moving even if they've already used their movement for their turn. If no open gem slots are available, the spell instead dissipates instead of being absorbed. Additionally, the user gains 1 INT or WIS score.
