Base Class: Artificer
An artificer who specializes as a Mutagenist is an artificer has delved into the secrets of alchemical mutation, transforming their body and mind to adapt to any situation. By ingesting or injecting specially formulated mutagens, these artificers alter their physiology, gaining enhanced abilities and terrifying combat prowess. Their expertise in bio-alchemy allows them to wield these transformations with precision, turning their bodies into living weapons.

Mutagen
3rd-level Mutagenist feature
You learn to manipulate your biology. On your turn, you can take a mutagenic substance as a bonus action. You determine the mutagen’s appearance; your choice has no effect on its game statistics. Once you use a mutagen, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest or until you expend a spell slot to create one.
The mutagen causes you to gain the following benefits if you aren’t wearing heavy armour:
- You gain temporary hit points equal to half your level at the start of your turn.
- You grow claws, fangs, spines, horns or a different natural weapon of your choice. Your unarmed strikes deal 1d8 magical bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, and you are proficient with your unarmed strikes.
- When you make an unarmed strike, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength modifier, for the attack and damage rolls.
- You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
The mutagen lasts for 1 hour. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if you choose to end it as a bonus action.
At the end of a longrest, you can create a new mutagen if you have Alchemist’s Supplies with you. If you already have a mutagen from this feature, it loses its effect.
Wrathful Strike
3rd-level Mutagenist feature
You let your blood thirst run rampant. While under the effect of your mutagen, you can use a bonus action to cause one wrathful strike effect of your choice after you make an unarmed strike against a creature.
You have the following effect options:
Vampiric Bite. You deal an additional 1d8 necrotic damage and regain hit points equal to half of the damage dealt by this feature.
Reckless Slash. All additional creatures other than the target within 5 ft. of you take 1d4 slashing damage.
Swift Step. You can move up to half of your movement speed. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
Forceful Blow. You deal an additional 1d8 bludgeoning damage and the creature must make a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC, on a failure the target is pushed back 10ft.
Grovelling Blow. You deal an additional 1d8 bludgeoning damage and the creature must make a Strength saving throw against your spell save DC, on a failure the target is knocked prone.
Mutant Bloodshed
5th-level Mutagenist feature
You hone your mutagenic formula to make you more powerful. When you make an unarmed strike against a creature while affected by your mutagen, add 1d8 to the damage roll. This damage increases by 1d8 when you reach 11th level (2d8), and 17th level (3d8).
Additionally, when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike while affected by your mutagen, the creature must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure the creature gains one level of Bleeding. You can give out a number of bleeding levels equal to your Intelligence modifier.
A bleeding creature takes 1d6 necrotic damage for every level of bleeding at the end of its turn. A bleeding creature can use its action to make a Wisdom (Medicine) check against your spell save DC to stop the bleeding. The damage dice increases to a d8 at 11th level, and a d10 at 17th level.
Harnessed Mutations
5th-level Mutageist feature
You can infuse the natural weapons granted by your mutagen as if they were a simple or martial weapon.
Focused Mutagen
9th-level Mutagenist feature
You delve deep into your mutagenic formulas. When you use your mutagen feature you can choose one focus of your choice to enhance your mutant abilities. Each focus comes with a bonus action that can be used a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, no more than once per a turn. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
You have the following focus options:
Aerial. You gain a flying speed of 15ft., and your movement speed is not impeded when grappling a creature.
When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike on your turn, you can use a bonus action to deal 1d8 additional damage and attempt to grapple the target.
Aquatic. You gain a swimming speed of 30ft., you don’t need to breathe, and you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike on your turn, you can use a bonus action to deal 1d8 additional damage and the creature must make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failure, the creature has disadvantage on attack rolls until the end of your next turn.
Terrestrial. You gain a climbing speed of 30ft., your movement speed increases by 10ft., and you gain advantage on constitution saving throws.
When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike on your turn, you can use a bonus action to give it one additional level of bleeding so long as the creature is already bleeding.
Improved Wrathful Strike
Your mutant abilities grow stronger. When you cause a wrathful strike effect that deals damage, add one additional damage dice to the damage roll.
Improved Mutagen
You gain complete control over your mutagen. When you use your mutagen feature, you can now choose two different focuses instead of one. You gain all benefits from both focuses simultaneously.
