Base Class: Ranger
The Sleuth is a Ranger subclass that specializes in investigation, interrogation, and tracking in urban settings. Sleuths are detectives, private investigators, and other such individuals that specialize in solving puzzles and bringing evil to justice. They have honed their senses and skills to track down their targets and gather information on the cases they are working on.
Spell Hound
Starting at 3rd level, you learn an additional spell when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Sleuth Spells table. The spell counts as a ranger spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of ranger spells you know.
Sleuth Spells
| Ranger Level | Spell |
|---|---|
| 3rd | disguise self |
| 5th | knock |
| 9th | speak with dead |

Urban Explorer
At 3rd level, you become a master of city streets. You gain the urban environment as a favored terrain. When you make an Intelligence or Wisdom check related to urban environments, your proficiency bonus is doubled if you are using a skill that you’re proficient in.
While traveling in an urban city, you gain the following benefits:
- Difficult terrain doesn’t slow your group’s travel.
- Your group can’t become lost except by magical means.
- Even when you are engaged in another activity while traveling (such as navigating, shopping, or tracking), you remain alert to danger.
- If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.
- While tracking other creatures, you also learn their exact number, their sizes, and how long ago they passed through the area.
Exploit Weakness
Also starting at 3rd level, when a creature within 30 feet of you that you can see fails on a saving throw, you can use your reaction to move up to half your speed and make one weapon attack against the creature with advantage.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
Magical Analyst
Once you reach 7th level, you are an expert at uncovering hidden clues and magic. You can add your Wisdom modifier to Intelligence (Investigation) checks (minimum of 1).
Additionally, you can cast the detect magic spell as a ritual. When you cast detect magic in this way, you gain the ability to sense residual magic from the past. You can detect magic that was present within the last 24 hours and discern the specific time it was active during that period.
Hawkshaw Strike
Starting at 11th level, you use your sharp eye and reasoning to deduce where an enemy is weakest. You can use your bonus action to grant yourself a bonus to the next attack roll you make. This bonus is equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1).
Master Detection
Starting at 15th level, you're a master at peering through falsehoods, gaining the following benefits:
- If you spend at least 1 minute talking with a creature, you know if it tells a deliberate lie at any point afterward during that conversation.
- You have advantage on saving throws against illusions.
- You can automatically detect illusions and perceive the original forms of shapechangers or creatures that are transformed by magic, as long as they are within 10 feet of you.
