Base Class: Warlock
Machine Warlocks do not traditionally make a formal contract with a being of power like other warlocks might. Instead, they “donate” power to something called a soul machine, which could be an incredibly powerful supercomputer, automaton, or neural network, to gain power. In exchange, the machine exponentially increases its own power by feeding off of souls “donated” or harvested by it. This creates a feedback loop in which both the warlock and the machine gain power.
Power Reserves
Starting at 3rd level, you gain extra reserves for your magic. When you cast a spell of 5th level or lower, you can avoid expending a spell slot for that spell. You can only use this up to a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and all charges are replenished after a long rest.
A Cog in the Machine
Starting at 6th level, you gain resistance to lightning and thunder damage. When you deal lightning, thunder, or force damage with a spell, you can roll an additional damage die for that spell.
Overdrive
Starting at 10th level you can overclock your mechanical powers to deal even more damage. Once per long rest as a bonus action you can go into overdrive mode, which allows you to add 3 additional damage dice when you cast a leveled spell that deals lightning, thunder, or force damage. However, you gain vulnerability to all damage types and at the end of each of your turns take 2d10 force damage that cannot be reduced in any way. Overdrive mode lasts until you use a bonus action to end it, drop to 0 hit points, or until the end of your 3rd turn after using this ability.
Soul Rend
Starting at 14th level, you can attempt to empower yourself by stealing souls from dying creatures. You can expend an action to attempt to rend a soul from a creature’s body that is within 30 feet of you. If the creature has ten hit points or less, you successfully extract their soul and can exchange one of your own ability scores for their ability score. However, if they are not under ten hit points they take 2d10 force damage. You can only use this ability once per long rest, and you can only have one ability score exchanged at a time.
