Base Class: Monk

Warriors who have attained enlightenment embark on the way of the sword saint, it has been said in the ancient text that sword saints can cut through anything even souls.

Level 3: Swordmaster

You gain proficiency with longswords that deals slashing damage; while using longswords, you may handle them with finesse, which is now your monk weapon. When you would make an unarmed strike, you may make an attack with your longsword instead. It still counts as an unarmed strike for your monk-class abilities. Additionally, you have honed your body in the way of the sword as you utilize it as an extension of your body. You may interchange how you use the sword with the following techniques:

  • Sundering Strike The first technique that you are most familiar with consists of vertical and horizontal slashes you deal an additional 1d6 damage. (base damage)
  • Piercing Stab The second technique is where you point your blade at your opponent, stabbing them. You may change your sword's base damage to piercing when using this technique.
  • Concussive Blow The third technique, you maneuver your blade to hit your opponent with the blunt part, and you may change your sword’s base damage to bludgeoning using this technique.

Using these techniques is limited to longswords with base slashing damage.

Level 6: Wisemen

Your wisdom reaches the heavens, as it also affects your way of fighting and your skills in dealing with situations that seem unfavorable. You may use your dexterity modifier instead of your strength modifier for strength checks, while you may use your wisdom modifier for your charisma skill check instead of your charisma modifier. 

Level 11: Steel Heart

Your body represents the steel resolve of your will. While equipped with wisdom and might, you do not fear or cower in the might of others. Once per short rest, when you are stunned, paralyzed, or incapacitated, you may spend 2 Focus Points to remove the conditions placed on your body.

Level 17: One with the Sword

You now embody the sword, as your gaze is sharper than any blade, while your strikes are more deadly than any weapon known. Achieving this level of skill, you gain enlightenment in using the sword as it becomes a part of your being. You gain the following benefits to your techniques as a sword saint:

  • Sundering Strike When you hit with a critical hit with this technique, the target suffers from bleeding until they use an action to stop the bleeding, at the start of their turn they take a number of your martial art dice equal to half your proficiency bonus as slashing damage.
  • Piercing Stab When you hit with a critical hit with this technique, the target cannot regain hit points until the start of your next turn.
  • Concussive Blow When you hit with a critical hit with this technique, any held items, such as a weapon or shield, are dropped by the target.

Additionally, you gain a weapon mastery on your longsword called Vicious Wind.

Vicious Wind

Monk Weapon Mastery Longsword:

While using empowered strikes with your longsword; you may strike a creature within 30 feet of you with a vicious wind and force them to make a Strength saving throw. On a failure, they are pulled or pushed 20 feet towards you or away from you and take force damage equal to your monk weapon damage roll and bonuses. The DC for this save is 8 plus your Wisdom modifier plus your Proficiency Bonus.
