The Oath of Kikuta is sworn by paladins belonging to a clandestine and ancient order, known for their mastery of stealth, spirit manipulation, and the creation of spectral clones. These paladins operate from the shadows, executing their duties with precision and secrecy to maintain balance and justice in the world. The Kikuta see themselves as the invisible hands of fate, using both physical prowess and spiritual power to deliver swift judgement on those who upset the equilibrium. their skill in creating illusory duplicates allows them to strike from multiple angles, making them a confusing and dangerous opponent.

Tenets of the Kikuta

  • Strike unseen: Move through the world as a shadow, accomplishing your mission without drawing attention. Silence and subtlety are your greatest weapons.
  • Balance through elimination: Bring balance to the world through precision strikes, eliminating threats before they can cause further chaos. Avoid open conflict whenever possible.
  • Master of Mind and Spirit: Just as your blade must be sharp, so too must your mind. Remain disciplined, and use the spiritual connection to your ancestors as a guiding light.
  • Ghost in the Darkness: Leave no trace of your passage. Act swiftly and disappear without a sound, for your work is most effective when it is unknown.

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Kikuta Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Spirit Step

As a bonus action, you can use your Channel divinity to temporarily shift into the ethereal plane. For 1 minute, you can move through solid objects as though they were difficult terrain. If you end your turn inside a solid object, you are ejected to the nearest unoccupied space and take force damage equal to triple your paladin level.

Phantom Blade

In the same action as your attack, you can channel divine energy into your weapon making it ethereal and deadly. For 1 minute, your weapon attack ignores any armour or shields ( ignore AC from shield or armour). The first time you hit a creature while this is active, the creature must succeed on a wisdom saving throw (DC = your spell save DC) or be paralysed for 1 minute. They can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns to end the effect.

Aura of Shadows

Your ability to remain unseen extends to those around you. While you are conscious, you and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. Additionally, while within this aura, allies cannot be detected by magical means unless chosen to be. This includes spells like See Invisibility or Detect magic.

Shadow clones

You gain the ability to create illusory or spiritual clones of yourself to confuse your enemies and strike from unexpected angles. As an action, you create two shadowy duplicates of yourself within 30 feet. These clones last for 1 minute or until they are destroyed. You can command these clones to move and mimic your actions, though they cannot deal damage directly. You can also use your bonus action to switch places with one of these clones.

Whenever a creature attacks one of your clones, it must make an intelligence saving throw (DC = your spell save DC). On a failed save, the creature believes the clone is real and is distracted, giving you advantage on your next attack against that creature.

You can use this ability the same number of times as your proficiency modifier, replenishing all of them upon a long rest and one upon a short rest.

Avatar of the Kikuta

At 20th level your mastery over stealth and illusion becomes a permanent extension of your being, and you exist as both flesh and spirit. You gain the following benefits:

  • Ghost form: You can now move through solid objects as though they are difficult terrain at will, and you take no damage while passing through them or for staying in them. While in this state You have resistance to all non-magical damage and cannot be grappled or restrained.
  • Spectral Clones: You can create up to four clones at a time, and they last 10 minutes. These clones can make weapon attacks that deal 1d8 necrotic damage on a hit. If you switch places with one of these clones using your Bonus action, you can make an attack in the same bonus action to a creature within 5 feet and deal an extra 2d8 necrotic damage on a hit.
  • Silent Killer: You are permanently under the effects of the Nondetection Spell. Additionally, when you are invisible or hiding, your first melee attack against a creature each turn deals and extra 3d6 necrotic damage.
