Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

The world is haunted by pockets of untamed magic left behind by the destruction of the great beyond. These chaotic energies, known as the Athric Spread, twist the natural order—warping plants, animals, creatures, and even the very fabric of reality itself. Those who come into contact with this corruption are forever changed, and among them, the barbarians who follow the Path of Athric Chaos are both feared and revered.
Barbarians who walk this path tap into these wild, unpredictable forces during their rages. They don’t just harness physical strength but unleash the chaotic magic that surges within them, twisting reality and distorting the battlefield. Whether summoning echoes of themselves from alternate realities, warping time, or bending space, these barbarians bring the full force of chaos into battle. Warriors of Athric Chaos are conduits of magical disorder, and those who face them quickly learn to respect—or fear—the destructive power they wield.

Athric Awareness

3rd-level Path of Athric Chaos

At 3rd level, your connection to the Athric Spread allows you to sense magical forces. As an action, you can detect the presence of spells or magical items within 60 feet, unless they are behind total cover. You can discern the school of magic, but not the exact spell. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Athric Surge

3rd-level Path of Athric Chaos feature

At 3rd level, when you embrace the Path of Athric Chaos, your rage is no longer just an expression of physical fury—it becomes a conduit for the chaotic energies of the Athric Spread that warp reality. Each time you enter a rage, the untamed magic that courses through your body explodes outward, manifesting in a random surge of magic.

When you enter your rage, you become a conduit for chaotic magic. Roll on the Athric Surge Table to determine the magical effect that surrounds you for the duration of your rage.

If the effect requires a saving throw, the DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.

Athric Surge Table
d12 Effect
1 Chaotic Spirit: An intangible spirit (flumph or pixie, your choice) appears within 5 feet of one creature you can see within 30 feet. At the end of your turn, the spirit explodes. Creatures within 5 feet of the spirit must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take [roll]1d6[/roll] force damage. You can summon a new spirit as a bonus action on each turn while raging. Damage increases by [roll]1d6[/roll] at levels 7, 13, and 19.
2 Chaotic Flesh: Your body warps, gaining temporary hit points equal to [roll]3d6[/roll] + your proficiency bonus. If a creature hits you while you have these hit points, it takes [roll]3d6[/roll] force damage.
3 Sympathetic Suffering: You share in the suffering of those around you. As a reaction, when a creature within 30 feet of you takes damage, you can halve the damage they take by sharing in their pain. You take the remaining half of the damage, which cannot be reduced. If the creature is hostile, it must make a Wisdom saving throw or be forced to share its suffering with you. This effect lasts until your rage ends.
4 Blinding Bolt: A radiant bolt shoots from your chest. A creature of your choice within 30 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take [roll]1d6[/roll] radiant damage and be blinded until the start of your next turn. Damage increases by [roll]1d6[/roll] at levels 5, 11, and 17. You can use this as a bonus action while raging.
5 Warping Strike: Your melee attacks warp space, dealing an extra [roll]1d6[/roll] force damage, and the area within 10 feet of you becomes difficult terrain for enemies.
6 Laughter of the Void: You emit eerie laughter. Creatures within 30 feet must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of your next turn. Frightened creatures must Dash away from you if able. You can use this as a bonus action while raging.
7 Spatial Swap: A creature of your choice within 30 feet must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or swap places with you. You can use this as a bonus action while raging.
8 Chaos Pulse: You release a wave of chaotic energy. Each creature within 15 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take [roll]1d6[/roll] psychic damage and be stunned until the end of your next turn. Damage increases by [roll]1d6[/roll] at levels 5, 11, and 17. You can use this as an action while raging.
9 Shadow Tendrils: Dark tendrils lash out. Creatures of your choice within 30 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take [roll]2d6[/roll] necrotic damage. You gain [roll]2d6[/roll] temporary hit points. Both effects increase to [roll]2d8[/roll], [roll]1d10[/roll], and [roll]2d12[/roll] at levels 5, 11, and 17.
10 Cries of the Void: You unleash an echoing battle cry. Creatures within 30 feet must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be compelled to attack you on their next turn, using their movement to close the distance and focus their attacks on you. You can use this as a bonus action.
11 Chaotic Inspiration: You channel chaotic energy into an ally. One creature of your choice within 30 feet gains advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the start of your next turn. You can choose a new creature as a bonus action each turn.
12 Chaotic Blessing: You create a burst of unstable magic. One ally within 30 feet regains [roll]2d4[/roll] hit points, and their next attack deals an additional [roll]2d6[/roll] force damage. You can choose a new creature to receive this benefit each turn as a bonus action.

Shard of Chaos

At 6th level, you gain the ability to share the chaotic power of the Athric Spread with others. As an action, you can touch a creature (including yourself) and grant them chaotic power. If the target is a spellcaster, they roll a [roll]1d4[/roll] and regain one expended spell slot of a level equal to or lower than the number rolled. If used on yourself, you can reroll on the Athric Surge Table, but you must use the second result. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Chaotic Resistance

10th-level Path of Wild Magic feature

You gain resistance to magical forces. When you are forced to make a saving throw against a spell or magical effect, you can roll at advantage on your saving throw. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Unleashed Athric Cataclysm

14th-level Path of Wild Magic feature

At 14th level, when you enter a rage, you can unleash the full force of the Athric Chaos. For the duration of your rage, you can roll twice on the Athric Surge Table and choose which effect to activate, or you can apply both. In addition, you and creatures of your choice within 10 feet gain advantage on Constitution saving throws, and enemies have disadvantage on attack rolls against you. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
