Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Magic exists in many forms. Wizards study, Artificers invent, Sorcerers force their will, and Clerics and Warlocks gain magic from a higher power. Even Fighters and Rogues learn magic to complete their own ends. However, most Barbarians shun the craft, stopping themselves from using it with their rage. Despite this, some have learned an ancient art of tempering their rage and using it to unlock their magic within. You are one such Barbarian.

Spellcasting

This feature is affected by multiclassing. See the Multiclassing rules for more information.

When you reach 3rd level, you learn to balance your inner rage with your inner magical might, and gain the ability to cast spells, even while raging. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and the Spells Listing for the sorcerer spell list.

Cantrips

You learn two cantrips of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. You learn an additional sorcerer cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

Spell Slots

The Primal Path: Sorcerous Fury Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your sorcerer spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.

For example, if you know the 1st-level spell shield and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast shield using either slot.

Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher

You know three 1st-level sorcerer spells of your choice.

The Spells Known column of the Sorcerous Fury Spellcasting table shows when you learn more sorcerer spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the sorcerer spells you know with another spell of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

Spellcasting Ability

Charisma is your spellcasting ability for your barbarian spells, since you learn your spells through focusing your will. You use your Charisma whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Charisma modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a barbarian spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier

Reckless Magic

Starting at 3rd level, you can throw aside all concern for defense to attack with fierce desperation. When you make your first spell attack on your turn, you can decide to attack recklessly. Doing so gives you advantage on Barbarian spell attack rolls during this turn, but attack rolls against you have advantage until your next turn.

In addition, casting spells will maintain your rage, as if you attacked or took damage. However, your loose hold on your magic means you cannot concentrate on spells, or cast spells that require concentration while raging.

Versatile Fury

At 6th level, you have gained the ability to channel your arcane power into pure emotion, and channeling emotion into pure arcana. As a bonus action, you can expend a use of rage to get back a number of spell slot levels up to your rage damage bonus. Alternatively, you can expend a number of spell slot levels equal to your rage damage bonus to recover one use of rage.

Heightened Reckless Magic

At 10th level, when you use your Reckless Magic feature, you can impose disadvantage on saving throws against your Barbarian spells, but you also have disadvantage on saving throws against spells until your turn. If you cast a spell that targets multiple creatures, you can choose one creature to have disadvantage on all saving throws against the spell.

Concentrated Fury

At 14th level, you finally gain complete balance between your rage and magical focus. You can cast spells that require concentration while raging, and you can maintain concentration on those spells.
